id=\"text-2219710948\" class=\"text\">\n\t\t\n<p>The research focus of my laboratory is to understand molecular mechanism that underlies primary mitochondrial respiratory chain (MRC) deficiency, the most common cause of inborn errors of metabolism, with an estimated prevalence of 1 in 5,000 births worldwide. MRC deficiency is also implicated in the etiology of many common diseases such as diabetes, Parkinson\u2019s disease and Alzheimer\u2019s disease. Ultimately, a better understanding of MRC deficiency will be beneficial for clinical application, especially diagnosis and management of respiratory chain deficiencies, in the future.<\/p>\n<p>We use <em>Ceanorhabditis elegans (C. elegans)<\/em>, a free-living, non-pathogenic soil nematode, as a study model. C. elegans has become a widely used animal model because of its physical, genetic simplicities, low maintenance, and short life cycle.
