Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) Onsite Meeting with SiCORE–Diabetes and Obesity (SiCORE-DO) 2026 at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital
The Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, had the privilege of hosting the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) Onsite Meeting of the Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Diabetes and Obesity (SiCORE-DO) on 9–10 March 2026. The meeting welcomed two distinguished international leaders in diabetes research: Prof. George L. King, M.D., Professor of Medicine and Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School, USA (onsite), and Prof. Gordon H. Williams, M.D., from Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, USA (joining via Zoom).
The event was officially opened by Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, M.D., Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, who warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and emphasized the importance of international collaboration in strengthening Thailand’s research ecosystem. An overview of the Faculty’s research strategy and ongoing activities within the Siriraj Centers of Research Excellence (SiCORE) was presented by Assist. Prof. Woraphat Ratta-apha, M.D., highlights the institution’s commitment to advancing innovative research and nurturing the next generation of scientists and clinician–researchers.
During the meeting, the invited professors delivered inspiring lectures and shared their extensive international experience in advancing biomedical research. Their insights provided valuable perspectives on emerging directions in diabetes and obesity research, as well as guidance on strengthening research capacity, global collaboration, and translational impact.
The session also featured presentations of ongoing research projects from the SiCORE-DO research teams, led by Prof. Nattachet Plengvidhya, M.D., together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Watip Tangjittipokin, Assoc. Prof. Weerachai Srivanichakorn, M.D., Assoc. Prof. Korapat Mayurasakorn, M.D., Assoc. Prof. Pornpoj Pramyothin, M.D., and Assist. Prof. Dr. Prapaporn Thamtarana. The discussions highlighted the collaborative spirit within the research community and created valuable learning opportunities for young researchers, medical students, and trainees who attended the session. Beyond reviewing scientific progress, the meeting served as an inspiring platform for human resource development (HRD), encouraging early-career researchers to engage in impactful research and international collaboration. The constructive recommendations and mentorship from SAB members will play an important role in shaping the future direction of diabetes and obesity research at Siriraj.
