Prof. Supat Vanichakarn<\/strong>, Secretary General of Prince Mahidol Award Foundation under the Royal Patronage; <strong>Mr. Nikorndej Balankura<\/strong>, Director-General of the Department of Information and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; <strong>Prof. Vicharn Panich<\/strong>, Chairman of Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program Steering Committee; and <strong>Emer. Prof. Sompop Limpongsanurak<\/strong>, Chairman of the Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program Selection Committee, together issue a press release on the names of <strong>&#8220;Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program Scholarship Recipients 2024&#8221;<\/strong> at the Chulabhorn conference room, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.<\/p>\n<p>This year, two medical students from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, were among the five scholarship recipients:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mr. Khemmawit Siriwong<\/strong>: 6<sup>th<\/sup>-year medical student, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mr. Thitipat Pattanaprateeb<\/strong>: 6<sup>th<\/sup>-year medical student, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>21 applicants from 11 institutes were nominated for the Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program in 2024. Only 5 successful applicants meet the criteria of the Prince Mahidol Award Youth Program. The Selection Committee selected the scholarship recipients and presented to the Board of Trustees which HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is a President. He is interested in a research topic of \u201cNovel multipurpose molecular target for diagnosing and treating breast cancer: Telomerase reverse transcriptase gene complex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Breast cancer is undeniably one of the leading causes of mortality in women worldwide, with over two million new cases diagnosed and hundreds of thousands of deaths each year. However, it is preventable if detected early and treated promptly. Mr. Siriwong is passionate about developing innovative diagnostic tools, screening methods, and therapies for breast cancer to reduce the disease burden on individuals and the healthcare system while improving the well-being of both Thai and global populations.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Khemmawit Siriwong has received honors and awards as the following:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>2024<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First authorship and oral presentation on the topic \u201cThe effect of self-directed learning readiness on Thai medical students\u2019 self-reported National Licensing Examination Step 1 score\u201d at the Ottawa 2024 Conference, Melbourne, Australia<\/li>\n<li>Head coordinator of the Global Health Case Competition at the Prince Mahidol Award Conference 2024 (PMAC 2024)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>2023<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>President of the Siriraj Medical Student Union and attended the 12<sup>th<\/sup> ASEAN Medical Deans\u2019 Summit (AMDS), University of Malaya, Malaysia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>2022<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>President of the 12<sup>th<\/sup> Siriraj International Medical Microbiology, Parasitology,<br \/>\nand Immunology Competition. He is interested in a research topic of \u201c Kidney sentinel: Advancing clinical translation of biomarkers for early diagnosis of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients through targeted metabolomic analysis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Half of all patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) develop it as a result of diabetic kidney disease, and these patients face lifelong challenges with kidney replacement therapy\u201d The primary reason for poor disease outcomes lies in the delayed diagnosis of DKD. Current clinical diagnostic methods are insufficient to detect early kidney damage caused by DKD in its initial stages. Mr. Pattanaprateeb, with a strong interest in nephrology and biochemistry, has proposed a research project utilizing metabolomics technology to identify biomarkers for the early diagnosis and prognosis prediction of DKD.
