Division of Medical Bioinformatics
Formerly known as the Division of Bioinformatics and Research Data Management, this unit was established on October 11, 2006, under the Research Promotion Center, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. The founding head of the division was Assistant Professor Dr. Prapat Suriyaphol. The division originally focused on two main missions:
Bioinformatics: Conducting research related to biological data analysis, such as microbial and human genome sequencing, using computer technologies and bioinformatics software. The division also provides consultation services in bioinformatics data analysis and organizes workshops to disseminate knowledge in this field.
Research Data Management: The division developed the BDM scan system, an artificial intelligence-based computer system capable of converting handwritten data from paper into digital format for database storage. This system supports the reading of Case Record Forms (CRFs) for research projects and other organizations that collect data via questionnaires. The division also offers consultation on CRF design for compatibility with the BDM scan system.
In 2022, the division underwent a contextual transformation with the appointment of Dr. Thidathip Wongsurawat as the new head. The division was renamed to the Division of Medical Bioinformatics to better reflect its revised mission and expanded capabilities in research and service. Notably:
The division established the Siriraj Long-read Lab (Si-LoL), a comprehensive medical nanopore sequencing laboratory.
A specialized team was formed with expertise in:
Performing base sequencing using the Oxford Nanopore Sequencer in the lab
Analyzing sequence data generated by the Oxford Nanopore platform
Providing consultation for research planning involving Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology
These developments support research and services in precision medicine and pathogen detection using Oxford Nanopore sequencing technology. The division continues its core bioinformatics mission, while the BDM scan system remains available as a service, though it is no longer a primary focus.
หน่วยชีวสารสนเทศทางการแพทย์

มีชื่อเดิมว่า หน่วยชีวสารสนเทศและจัดการข้อมูลวิจัย ก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ 11 ตุลาคม 2549 เป็นหน่วยงานภายใต้ สถานส่งเสริมการวิจัย คณะแพทยศาสตร์ศิริราชพยาบาล มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล โดยมี ผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ประพัฒน์ สุริยผล เป็นหัวหน้าหน่วยฯ โดยมีภารกิจหลักอยู่สองด้านคือ
1. ด้านชีวสารสนเทศ ทำงานวิจัยที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลทางชีววิทยา เช่น ข้อมูลลำดับพันธุกรรมของเชื้อจุลินทรีย์และมนุษย์ ด้วยเทคโนโลยีคอมพิวเตอร์และโปรแกรมทางด้านชีวสารสนเทศ รวมถึงให้คำปรึกษาในด้านการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลทางชีวสารสนเทศแก่ผู้ที่สนใจ และจัดการประชุมเชิงปฏิบัติการเพื่อถ่ายทอดความรู้ทางด้านชีวสารสนเทศ
2. ด้านการจัดการข้อมูลวิจัย โดยหน่วยงานมีระบบ BDM scan ซึ่งเป็นระบบคอมพิวเตอร์ปัญญาประดิษฐ์ ที่สามารถแปลข้อมูลลายมือจากกระดาษให้เป็นข้อมูลดิจิตอลเพื่อจัดเก็บในระบบฐานข้อมูลได้ ระบบ BDM scan นี้ให้บริการในการอ่านข้อมูล Case Record Form (CRF) ของโครงการวิจัย และหน่วยงานต่าง ๆ ที่ต้องใช้การเก็บข้อมูลด้วยแบบสอบถาม รวมถึงให้คำปรึกษาในการออกแบบ CRF สำหรับใช้งานกับระบบ BDM scan ด้วย
ในปี 2565 ได้มีการปรับเปลี่ยนบริบทของหน่วยงานโดยมี อาจารย์ ดร.ธิดาทิพย์ วงศ์สุรวัฒน์ เข้ามารับตำแหน่งเป็นหัวหน้าหน่วยฯ และได้เปลี่ยนชื่อหน่วยเป็น หน่วยชีวสารสนเทศทางการแพทย์ (Division of Medical Bioinformatics) เพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับภารกิจหลักของหน่วย ฯ ที่ได้ปรับเปลี่ยน และเพิ่มความสามารถในด้านการทำงานวิจัยและงานบริการ กล่าวคือ
ทางหน่วยงาน ได้มีการจัดตั้ง ห้องปฏิบัติการนาโนพอร์ทางการแพทย์แบบครบวงจร (Siriraj Long-read Lab , Si-LoL) รวมถึงสร้างทีมที่เชี่ยวชาญทั้งในด้าน การหาลำดับเบสด้วยเครื่อง Oxford Nanopore Sequencer ในห้องปฏิบัติการ การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลลำดับเบสที่อ่านได้จากเครื่อง Oxford Nanopore Sequencer และการให้คำปรึกษาในการวางแผนการวิจัยที่จะใช้เทคโนโลยีการหาลำดับเบส Oxford Nanopore ทั้งนี้เพื่อรองรับงานวิจัยและงานบริการทางด้านการแพทย์แม่นยำ (Precision Medicine) และการตรวจหาเชื้อก่อโรคโดยใช้เทคโนโลยีการหาลำดับเบส Oxford Nanopore โดยยังคงภารกิจหลักอื่น ๆ ในด้านชีวสารสนเทศไว้เช่นเดิม สำหรับงานด้านการจัดการข้อมูลวิจัยนั้น ทางหน่วยยังให้บริการระบบ BDM scan ดังเดิม แต่จะไม่ใช่ภารกิจหลักของหน่วยงาน
