On September 22nd, 2023, Prof. Apichat Asawamankul, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, presided over the Ceremony of Taking the Oath to promote the charitable activities of the students from the Bangkok Noi campus. This ceremony occurred in front of Prince Mahidol Statue, who encouraged the students before they embarked on a primary donation drive throughout Bangkok and nearby provinces. The funds raised will be used to help underprivileged patients at Siriraj Hospital.
The Ceremony of Taking the Oath, an annual event held on “Mahidol Day,” follows in the footsteps of His Majesty King Adulyadej Vikrom, “Father of Modern Medicine in Thailand,” and is dedicated to serving society. In addition to commemorating His Majesty’s dedication to the advancement of modern Thai medicine, this event also involves fundraising efforts to help underprivileged patients at Siriraj Hospital. This tradition has been ongoing since 1960 and continues to instill a sense of social responsibility in the students, who actively contribute to the well-being of society.
In this year’s event, students will visit various locations in Bangkok, such as the Wang Lang area, Tha Phra Chan, Chulalongkorn Hospital, and nearby provinces like Phetchaburi and Prachuap Khiri Khan. Artists and performers will accompany the donation drive at the Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building.
