MU-RILCA ASEAN+3: Multilingual & Multicultural Programme

Principles and Rationale

The Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia (RILCA), Mahidol University, believes that “Language and culture are essential elements of problem-solving and social development”. The guideline it uses for undertaking its mission involves detailed research and expertise in learning and teaching. RILCA realizes the importance of culture, ethnicity, and religion in Thailand and Southeast Asia (SEA), and the need to develop knowledge of multiculturalism across SEA in perspective. In the past, the Institute has organized academic research training sessions and implemented policies to promote activities related to multiculturalism, including the rights of immigrants and ethnic minorities. RILCA has also been conducting a variety of projects in collaboration with local government agencies, the private sector, NGOs, and related international organizations.

The MU-RILCA ASEAN+3 (China, South Korea, Japan): Multilingual & Multicultural Programme for Sustainable Development is part of RILCA’s mission to promote a better understanding of multiculturalism in Thailand and ASEAN+3 countries for the purpose of sustainable development based on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Multicultural – Multilingual Programme Asian+3 focuses on education and the exchange of knowledge related to various issues such as multiculturalism, citizenship, race relations, coexistence, and social interaction in the context of Southeast Asia and ASEAN+3.
