On March 21st, 2024, Asst. Prof. Kamol Udol, the Chair of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, delivered the opening remarks for the workshop titled “ Self-care Competency: From Knowledge to Practice and Evaluation.” The workshop was a collaborative effort between several entities:
- The Department of Preventive and Social Medicine and the Siriraj Academic Center of Geriatric Medicine (SiACG) at the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital.
- The Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health (MoPH).
- The Thai Society for Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine (TGGM).
- Abbott Laboratories.
The primary aim of the workshop was to promote self-care strategies among individuals, caregivers, families, and communities.
Distinguished speakers invited to the event included:
- Dr. Austen El-Osta, the Director of the Self-Care Academic Research Unit (SCARU) and Primary Care Research Manager at the School of Public Health, Imperial College London.
- Prof. Prasert Assantachai and Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan from Siriraj Hospital and TGGM.
- Dr. Natthapong Kunthawong, the Director of the Bureau of Elderly Health at the Department of Health, MoPH.
During the workshop, Dr. Austen El-Osta engaged in discussions with Prof. Apichat Asawamongkolkul, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, regarding potential collaborations aimed at promoting healthy aging and self-care.
