Royal Treatise of Medicine (Tamra Phaetsart Songkroh; Preservation Edition) Book 1 is an academic work which is developed through the collaboration of faculty members of the Ayurved Thamrong School. The contributors researched extensive study, verification, and critical review of original manuscripts before producing a newly revised and edited edition in 2007. This publication was prepared to commemorate the auspicious occasion of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 80th Birthday Anniversary, reflecting a strong commitment to preserving the wisdom of Thai Traditional Medicine as an enduring part of Thai society.
This book compiles knowledge from 13 classical Thai medical treatises, which serve as fundamental sources for the study and teaching of Thai Traditional Medicine. The contents comprehensively cover the etiology of diseases, health maintenance, and therapeutic approaches. Notable treatises include:
- Samuddhan Vinijchai: describing the causes and contributing factors of diseases according to Thai Traditional Medicine concepts
- Pathomjinda: describing conditions related to pregnancy, childbirth, and neonatal development
- Takkasila: describing characteristics of febrile illnesses and guidelines for diagnosis and treatment
A key distinguishing feature of this book is its preservation of the original language, style, and content of ancient texts, allowing readers and scholars to appreciate the elegance of classical Thai language. It also serves as an important resource for the study of Thai traditional medicine scriptures and other historical documents.
For these reasons, Tamra Phaetsart Songkroh; Preservation Edition is not merely a textbook, but also a valuable intellectual heritage that reflects the core of knowledge in Thai Traditional Medicine and the cultural values that should be preserved and passed on to future generations.
