Pediatric Undergraduate

          The Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital is an academic faculty for medical degree, residency and fellowship training programs. For the undergraduate level, we contribute to a successful academic environment for medical students in clinical clerkship. There are over three hundred medical doctors are graduate form Siriraj Hospital in each year. One of our missions is to provide the best quality of general practitioners to Thai society as well as to improve Thai children’s health.

          Siriraj medical students are required to do a four to six week clinical rotation in Pediatrics in their 4th – 6th year. During the clerkship period, they will gain clinical exposure to patients on general wards including the nursery and sick newborn unit. They also spend time in an ambulatory setting where they will see patients for well child visits, acute problems and new consults. In additional, various pediatric subspecialty clinics are available to attend.

Teaching sessions

Classroom activity– mandatory Interactive core lectures and active learning activities are provided such as team-based learning, group discussion

Clinical skills teaching session – teaching at the bedside, basic procedure such as aerosol therapy, intramuscular injection and resuscitation (PALS, NCPR)

Web-based learning material

Pediatric case study: a self-directed tool designed to enhance clinical decision making skills of medical students by solving the prepared common pediatric cases that might be not encountered or the key pediatric presentations.

Additional e-lectures on emergency topics, clinical procedure videos which are created to meet the learning objectives for the core pediatrics clerkship.

Morning academic conferences  various interesting cases and morbidity& mortality case reviews are presented every morning as well as grand round and topic reviews. Medical students are encouraged to attend these medical conferences in order to enhance experience in pediatric clinical practice and to keep them up-to-date.

We have both formative and summative assessment with a variety of methods to ensure the medical competency of the students including MCQ, MEQ, OSCE, direct observation of clinical skills, clinical performance rating and learning portfolio.
