“Effects of Ankle–Foot Orthosis–Footwear Combination Tuning on Energy Expenditure in Children with Cerebral Palsy: A Feasibility Study”
This study investigates the effects of tuning the ankle-foot orthosis-footwear combination (AFO-FC) on oxygen cost and energy expenditure during ambulation in a child with cerebral palsy and crouch gait. The findings demonstrated that the tuned AFO-FC condition could reduce oxygen cost and net energy expenditure compared to a non-tuned AFO-FC, with the most consistent improvements observed at a shank-to-vertical angle of 7°. In general, the article provides preliminary evidence supporting the potential clinical relevance of customized AFO-FC tuning in improving walking efficiency and its feasibility for future research.n.
