The 5th Research and Innovation Advisory Committee Meeting for Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Onsite Visit in 2023

On the prestigious date of October 20th, 2023, Professor Apichat Asavamongkolkul, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, presided over the 5th Research and Innovation Advisory Committee (RIAC) meeting. The occasion marked the gathering of prominent and remarkable scholars from renowned institutions, with some joining virtually.

The illustrious scholars included:

  1. Prof. Gavin Screaton, Head of the Medical Sciences Division, University of Oxford.
  2. Prof. David Jacoby, Dean of School of Medicine, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Laurence Selling Chair of Medicine and Director, MD/PhD Training Program.
  3. Prof. Nicholas J. White, Professor of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University, Consultant Physician at the John Radcliffe Hospital, University of Oxford and Wellcome Trust Southeast Asian.
  4. Prof. Dr. George Baillie, Professor of Molecular Pharmacology and Editor-in-Chief of Cellular Signalling Journal, Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Science, College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences, University of Glasgow.
  5. Prof. Dr. Joshua Burns, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney and Head of Sydney School of Health Sciences.
  6. Prof. Dr. Virasakdi Chongsuvivatwong, Professor of Community Medicine Faculty of Medicine, Prince of Songkla University and Curriculum Chairman, International Programme for Graduate Study in Epidemiology.
  7. Prof. Kiat Ruxrungtham, Professor of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University and Scientific Chair of the Chula Vaccine Research Center (ChulaVRC).
  8. Prof. Dr. Ralf F.W. Bartenschiager, Professor and Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Molecular Virology, University of Heidelberg. (Attended online)

On this occasion, the executive members from Mahidol University, such as the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, the Faculty of Medicine Ramathibodi Hospital, and the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, joined in welcoming the RIAC members, making this meeting even more meaningful and memorable.

This meeting provided a vital platform for in-depth discussions on the research performance of SiCOREs, research management, and strategic research direction at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital. Six Centers of Research Excellence, i.e., SiCORE-Allergy and Immunology, SiCORE-Cancer Precision Medicine & Systems Pharmacology, SiCORE-Dengue and Emerging Pathogens, SiCORE-Cardiovascular Disease, SiCORE-Diabetes and Obesity and SiCORE-Metabolomics and Systems Biology delivered presentation of their research plan and direction to the RIAC committees.

The insights and recommendations from the esteemed members of the RIAC promise to drive a significant transformation in our research endeavors. Following the meeting, an elegant dinner reception took place on the 12th floor of the SiMR building, fostering continued discussions in a relaxed and amiable atmosphere.
