Volunteer Doctors for Community Development Project

The 9th Volunteer Doctors for Community Development has been made possible by the group of medical students with volunteer hearts. They devoted to helping those in need by themselves with their initiative thoughts, inspiration, and ambitiousness. This will be a good opportunity for medical students to learn and manage the project and its limited resources efficiently. They will get to coordinate and work alongside medical personnel from the Healthcare department, community leader, volunteer, and all the local people.

Project Duration: February 8th – 10th, 2020

Venue: Ban Phu Phlu Health Promoting Hospital / Nong Ya Plong Hospital

Objectives : 

1) To increase experiences in medical knowledge, professional skill, critical thinking and management skill in medical students

2) To inspire and motivate the medical students to be a good doctor in the future

3) To let the medical students participate in volunteer activities

4) To create a good perception of medical doctors and medical personnel in public healthcare to the community. This also helps the community to see a better perspective of this project as well through the medical students

5) To educate the medical students of how to work as a team and to create good perception between the multidisciplinary and learning within the local hospital

6) To be a part of the research study about the experiences and skills gaining during the project from both medical students and doctors from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University

Project Implementation Plan:

– Offering the health checkup to local people in the community by working with local staff within the community

– Visiting all patients with chronic diseases in the community and promoting this project

– Studying the work operation and local hospital management system

– Raising the campaign about community health-promoting

– Raising the volunteer activity for community development

– Exchanging ideas and work experiences through alternative medicine activity

Target Group:

The community near Ban Phu Phlu Health Promoting Hospital  and Nong Ya Plong Hospital

Total participants: 

160 medical students

200  People who receive the treatment

Outcome of the Project: 

  1. Medical students have the appropriate characteristics and more profession knowledge
  2. Medical students are aware of applying the knowledge in an actual situation in the community
  3. Medical students practice and work with medical personnel and local people
  4. Medical students can respond and follow Prince Mahidol’s philosophy
  5. People inside the community have more opportunities to receive basic medical treatment and promoting more healthcare system in the community
  6. The community knows more of the common diseases, how to prevent the often found diseases inside the community and how to treat the diseases properly once you contracted it
