The elective study program offers international medical students and residents the opportunity to gain experience in their chosen specialty or department beyond required core rotations. Participants work under direct supervision of our faculty members in an observational capacity, with no credit transfer and no hands-on patient activities. The program welcomes medical students and residents from institutions worldwide, allowing applicants to select specialties and sub-specialties that align with their interests and career goals. The maximum program duration is four weeks.
Important Note: The possible period of the program is an even number of 2, and 4 weeks. We do not accept arranging the program for 3 and 5 weeks. The calendar shows the period of elective.

Even if you apply during the correct period, placement is not guaranteed, as departments may not be able to accommodate applicants due to various circumstances.
If your chosen department is not available during the period indicated in the table, we will skip that choice and automatically consider the next department in your ranking. Please keep this in mind when listing your preferences.
At Mahidol University, the medical education program follows a 6-year curriculum:
1st-3rd Foundation (Pre-Clinical Studies)
4th-6th Clinical Exposure

Recommended for students with a strong interest or passion in research. We encourage you to explore the supervisors in your chosen department, review their research topics, and contact them directly before submitting an application through our system. This approach is more practical than applying without prior contact.
Suitable for students with prior clinical exposure or those who have already started attending clinical training.
Please carefully review the specific requirements of each department before applying.
Alternative fields outside of clinical medicine. These placements are less medically intensive and focus more on practice, learning culture, and gaining new experiences. They are suitable for students seeking broader perspectives beyond traditional medical training.
Students have to make a payment for a processing fee of 4,500 TH Baht (upon arrival at the IR office). In accordance with Mahidol University’s vision of enhancing connections with other universities worldwide toward international excellence.
The tuition fee for this elective program is free of charge.
We will charge the processing fee for the students who ARE NOT under the MOU, MOA, or any agreement.
All Students must also be responsible for their living expenses, rental of accommodation, health insurance, transportation, etc., during their stay.
