ASEAN Medical Schools Network’s Accreditation Working Group Activities

Siriraj Hosted Accreditation Working Group Meeting Preparing to Work as One Community for ASEAN Community by 2015

During 24-25 July 2014, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital hosted Accreditation Working Group Meeting. There are 10 representatives from ASEAN countries to deliver a talk on “Accreditation of Medical Schools among ASEAN Countries”. This meeting held from the successful second ASEAN Medical Deans’ Summit at Faculty of Medicine University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in order to promote collaboration among leading medical schools in ASEAN; to leverage medical education and health systems towards international excellence; to share human resources and provide capacity building for medical education and research and health systems in ASEAN countries; and to be prepared to work as one community under the AEC by 2015. Flashback to the 2nd ASEAN Medical Deans’ Summit in Kuala Lumpur, the summit had divided the structure of the ASEAN Medical Schools Network into four divisions: 1). Education Working Group led by University of Malaya; 2). Research Working Group led by National University of Singapore; 3). Student Exchange Working Group led by University of Indonesia; and 4). Accreditation Working Group led by Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital. Each division will establish the goal, strategies, and plans during the 2-year term. Collaborative activities can be organized by each Working Group with assistance from the secretariat office at Siriraj. After the successful 2nd summit, the 3rd summit will be held in Singapore in September 2014. The Accreditation Working Group Meeting was chaired by Professor Prasit Watanapa and Dean Agnes from University of Philippines College of Medicine, Philippines.
