Prof. Penvadee Pattanaprichakul, from Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, welcomed Assoc. Prof. Alvaro Christian Laga Canales from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, USA, an expert in Dermatopathology and Infection Pathology, serve as the Siriraj International Visiting Scholars from November 4th to November 15th, 2024.

Ms. Lalita Matthapan, a scientist from the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, represented Siriraj at the “8th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Society for Medical Mycology (APSMM 2024)” in Kyoto, Japan, held from November 5th – 9th, 2024. She delivered an oral presentation on the topic “Optimal Duration for Specimen Transportation Using Specimen Storing Envelopes in Superficial Fungal Infections”. Ms. Matthapan aims to bring back insights and innovative ideas to enhance departmental work processes, fostering efficiency and encouraging new approaches within the organization.

Mr. Waranyoo Prasong from the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, participated in the “8th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Society for Medical Mycology (APSMM2024)”, held in Kyoto, Japan, from November 5th – 9th, 2024. He delivered an oral presentation titled “The Study of Diagnostic Accuracy in Diagnosing Dermatophytosis Using Dermatophyte Test Medium”. This experience proved transformative for Mr. Prasong, offering critical insights and practical approaches that can be directly applied to diagnostic processes in Siriraj’s dermatology clinics.

Mr. Akkarapong Plengpanich, a research officer from the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “8th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Society for Medical Mycology (APSMM2024)” in Kyoto, Japan, held from November 5th – 9th, 2024. He presented his study titled “The In-vitro Study of Factors Affecting Fungal Nail Perforation Detected by Histologic Evaluation”.

APSMM2024 served as a vital platform for global exchange on advancements in medical mycology, fostering collaboration across institutions. Mr. Plengpanich aims to apply the insights gained to further Siriraj’s research initiatives in fungal diseases on an international scale.

Ms. Chatisa Panyawong, a scientist from the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “8th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Society for Medical Mycology (APSMM2024)” in Kyoto, Japan, held from November 5th – 9th, 2024. She presented an oral presentation titled “A 10-year Retrospective Study of Histopathological Features of Onychomycosis and Associated Factors with Cure”. Ms. Panyawong aims to leverage insights from this congress to further her expertise in fungal research, enhance her knowledge of pathogenic fungi, and receive valuable feedback to advance her career.

This is the first time Japan has hosted the APSMM Congress, creating a unique platform for medical mycologists in the Asia-Pacific to exchange professional insights and foster collaborations.

Supisara Wongdama, MD, Third Year Resident, is attending Clinical Elective at the Department of Dermatology, Mount Sinai Hospital, USA, from October 7th to November 1st, 2024.

The German Dermatological Society (DDG) and the International Society of Dermatology in the Tropics (ISDT), in collaboration with the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, will host the “9th Course in Tropical Dermatology.” This annual congress, taking place from September 12th-17th, 2024, will focus on key topics within tropical dermatology.

The ISDT’s Tropical Dermatology Working Group, led by Prof. Helmut Schöfer (Frankfurt) and Prof. Isaak Effendy (Bielefeld), was established to assist the ISDT board in organizing future courses.

Dr. Pichanee Limtanakool, MD, from the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, participated in the 16th Congress of the European Society of Contact Dermatitis (ESCD) held in Dresden, the Federal Republic of Germany, from September 4th – 7th, 2024. Dr. Limtanakool presented an abstract on the topic “Contact allergy among patients with prurigo: a 20-year retrospective study”.

The ESCD Congress featured comprehensive discussions on various aspects of the field, including advancements in basic and translational research, updates on the diagnosis and prevention of contact dermatitis, allergic and inflammatory skin conditions, current and emerging therapies, as well as presentations on recent clinical studies and their implications for patient care.
