Kyoto University is pleased to announce the “2024 Kyoto University Amgen Scholars Program”, a summer undergraduate research program in life science and biotechnology sponsored by the Amgen Foundation. It is an eight-week program from June 7th to August 2nd, 2024.

A brief description of Kyoto University Amgen Scholars Program is:
– 10 slots will be offered to undergraduate students from colleges and universities throughout Asia to undertake laboratory experience.
– Financial support will be provided such as a round-trip ticket, accommodation, and scholarship.
– Students will gain research knowledge, and the opportunity to network with other students and professionals, and gain invaluable insight to life as a graduate student.
– In addition to research experience, students also participate in various workshops, educational and cultural-based activities, as well as a two-day Asia Symposium.

Prof. Christopher Aaron Rice, Ph.D., an expert in molecular parasitology from Purdue University, USA, to serve as the Siriraj International Visiting Scholar at the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, during the period of December 12th – 16th, 2023.

On November 27th, 2023, the “Siriraj IR Pa Plearn Project” by the International Relations Office welcomed 18 international students, researchers, fellows, and residents to participate in the Loy Krathong Festival Activity, providing them with a unique opportunity to delve into Thai cultural traditions. The students crafted Krathongs for the first time, donning traditional Thai clothing to further enrich their cultural experience. Following this, they visited Ra Kang Temple to release their Krathongs, fully immersing themselves in the festival.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The regional competition Program offers grants to university faculty, foreign ministry or other government officials, and professional staff of the private sector, think tanks, and other NGOs in the ASEAN Member States to travel to the United States for scholarly and professional research for 3-4 months on priority issues to the U.S.-ASEAN relationship and ASEAN.

Selection will be based on professional qualifications of applicants, and on the quality and significance of their project proposals. The letter of invitation is optional at the time of application, yet applicants are encouraged to explore in advance the most appropriate location for their research/lecturing projects and should be able to indicate that the proposed host institutions are prepared to receive the scholars.

The grant covers a monthly stipend, a round-trip air ticket, professional and settling-in allowance, as well as lab and research fees (if applicable). Dependent expenses are not covered.

These programs and topics should also be of interest and relevance to Thailand and the ASEAN community. Be physically present in Bangkok at the time of the interview
Participate in preliminary orientation during mid-February and pre-departure orientation during the second week of June

Be willing and able to serve as a resource person and a cultural ambassador in the United States in seminars, conferences, or in other capacities requested by the host institution or community
Be prepared to participate in academic and alumni activities related to the program upon return to Thailand

ASEAN in Today’s World (AsTW)

AsTW is a two-week international study program that focuses on ASEAN and East Asian affairs. It is designed for undergraduate university students from around the world. The courses are primarily instructed in English.

AsTW was launched in March 2009 in Thailand. From 2009 to 2011, it was co-organized by Kyushu University (Japan) and Mahidol University (Thailand). Kyushu University worked with Ateneo de Manila University (the Philippines) and hosted AsTW in the Philippines from 2012 to 2014. From 2015 to 2017, AsTW was held at Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Vietnam). The AsTW sessions were held at the University of Malaya (Malaysia) from 2018 to 2020. In 2021 and 2022, the program was conducted online due to COVID-19 and was jointly hosted by Kyushu University and Mahidol University. In 2023, it was held on the Salaya Campus of Mahidol University, and in 2024, it will once again be held at Mahidol University.

These six prestigious universities in the ASEAN regions and Japan, namely University of Malaya, Mahidol University, Ateneo de Manila University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, Fukuoka Women’s University, and Kyushu University, have collaborated in the AsTW program with the strong support from the ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN University Network (AUN).

ASEAN in Today’s World 2024 will be held at Mahidol University (Thailand).

 

On November 7th, 2023, Professor Apichat Asavamongkolkul, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with administrative members, presided over an awards ceremony recognizing the achievements in “Educational Unit English Performance,” which had been assessed by the International Relations Office.
