The 42nd International Temporal Bone Surgical Dissection Course will be held between November 14th – 17th, 2023. This course provides 2 cadaveric temporal bones.

On July 17th, 2023, the Siriraj International Residency & Fellow Exchange Program Committee included Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, MD, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations; Asst. Prof. Kanokwaroon Watananirun, MD, Assistant Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations; Assoc. Prof. Thawornchai Limjindaporn, MD, Ph.D., Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Education; and Asst. Prof. Sani Baimai, MD, Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education conducted an onsite interview session for the “Siriraj International Residency & Fellow Exchange Program 2023” fellows/residents: Dr. Thanut Boonhaijaroen and Dr. Nattamol Kosaiyaganonth from the Department of Ophthalmology (both third-year residents) and Dr. Varis Manomaivong from the Department of Pediatrics (a second-year fellow).

Also, the committee took the opportunity to review the onsite reflection presentations of participants from Rounds 2-3:

  1. 2nd-Year Fellow, Dr. Nichkamol Lertamornkitti from the Department of Pediatrics training at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) from April 1st – 30th, 2023.
  2. 2nd-Year Resident, Dr. Vanthana Charoensawatsiri from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology training at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine from April 10th – May 5th, 2023.

Furthermore, three fellows/residents submitted their online presentations as reflections to be reviewed:

  1. 2nd-Year Fellow, Dr. Nophathai Sojisirikul from the Department of Pediatrics training at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), USA, from April 1st – 30th, 2023.
  2. 3rd-Year Resident, Dr. Natrinee Naksupphamit from the Department of Pediatrics, training at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA, from April 1st – 30th, 2023.
  3. 1st-Year Fellow, Dr. Theeradej Tepkasetkul from the Department of Medicine training at the National Epilepsy Center, NHO Shizuoka Institute of Epilepsy and Neurological Disorders, Japan, from May 29th – June 23rd, 2023.

The review of these presentations allowed the committee and participants to understand the transformative impact of the exchange program on the residents and fellows involved. It also emphasized the importance of international cooperation and knowledge sharing in advancing the field of medicine on a global scale.

Assoc. Prof. Warut Pongsapich and Dr. Apipat Wiriya from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and presented their research presentations at “The AHNS 11th International Conference on Head & Neck Cancer” hosted by the American Head and Neck Society (AHNS) held between July 8th – 12th, 2023, in Montreal, Canada. Assoc. Prof. Pongsapich has presented his research on the topic “Comparative study of optimal compression pressure between conventional Barton’s dressing and prefabricate germent in parotidectomy patients”, and Dr. Wiriya has presented his research on the topic “Clinical Predictive Factors of Malignancy in Parotidectomy Patients.”

The AHNS 2023 is the scientific program designed to bring together all disciplines related to the treatment of head and neck cancer. The AHNS 2023 assembled group of renowned head and neck surgeons, radiologists and oncologists have identified key areas of interest and major topics for everyone to explore.

On June 28th, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Phawin Keskool, Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with the Faculty Members of the Division of Laryngology, Head & Neck Surgery Division: Asst. Prof. Paiboon Sureepong Head of Laryngology, Head & Neck Surgery Division, Clin. Prof. Cheerasook Chongkolwatana, Asst. Prof. Chanticha Chotigavanich, and Asst. Prof. Sunun Ong-Ard delivered a certificate of completion to Dr. Redentor Bate Magdayao from Schistosomiasis Hospital Palo, Leyte, Philippines who successfully completed the training at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology “Siriraj Scholarship for Doctors from ASEAN and Developing Countries” between April 3rd–  June 30th, 2023.

Assoc. Prof. Phawin Keskool, Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with the Faculty Members of the Division of Laryngology, Head & Neck Surgery Division, delivered a certificate of completion to Dr. Giacomo Gravante from the University of Insubria, Italy, who successfully completed a short training program “Short Training Program in Head & Neck Surgery” at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology between March 1st – June 30th, 2023.

On June 21st, 2023 Prof. Kitirat Ungkanont, a Vice-Chair of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a special lecture on the topic “Otitis media in children with cleft palate: comprehensive studies of the clinical course and the long-term outcome of the management.” at the “22nd International Symposium on Recent Advances in Otitis Media (OM2023)” in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

The ISOM is the biannual International Otitis Media (OM) Symposium. The OM Symposium accomplishes the ever-difficult task of grouping leaders in OM research from all medical fields and corners of the world into one single highly interactive, exceedingly collegial scientific forum. The benefits afforded by having the ability to learn and engage in scientific exchange with OM leaders, individuals, and their research groups are immeasurable.

Welcome, Dr. Joyce Rodvie Miranda Sagun from Premier 101 Healthcare Management Inc., the Philippines, to attend the short training program under Siriraj Scholarship for ASEAN and Developing Countries from June 1st-30th, 2023 at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology.

Asst. Prof. Vannipa Vathanophas from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and delivered a research poster presentation on the topic “Prevention of ENT Comorbidities in Children with Allergic Rhinitis” at “The 16th Congress of the European Society of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology (ESPO 2023): Science, Clinicians and Families – Better Together” between May 20th – 23rd, 2023 in Liverpool, UK.

The ESPO 2023 features academic program presentations on cutting-edge research and complex cases and opportunities to interact and learn from renowned authorities in all fields of pediatric Otorhinolaryngology.

Prof. Siriporn Limviriyakul from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, welcomed Asst. Prof. Arik Paolo Isaiah Delacruz from the West Visayas State University-College of Medicine, Philippines, to attend the 1-Month Short Training Program in Otology and Neurotology at Otology Neurotology Audiology and Balance Division, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, starting from May 8th – June 9th, 2023.

                On May 1st, 2023, the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University together with The Royal College of Otolaryngologists-Head and Neck Surgeons of Thailand (RCOT) organized a pre-congress workshop on Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy 2023 at Siriraj Training and Education Center for Clinical skills (SiTEC), Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.
