From November 14th – 15th, 2023, Lecturer Kantarida Sripanidkulchai, M.D., from the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and presented her research poster at ’The Federation of Infection Societies (FIS) Conference 2023′ in Edinburgh, UK.

The Federation of Infection Societies (FIS) conference is the largest UK-hosted, international infection conference. It is a must-attend event for anyone working in infection prevention and control, infectious diseases, clinical microbiology, and biomedical science.

On November 10th, 2023, Assoc.Prof.Summon Chomchai, M.D., an Instructor from the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the 21st Annual Scientific Congress “Asia Pacific Association Of Medical Toxicology Conference 2023 in Kerala, India. Assoc. Prof. Chomchai has participated in the workshop among international experts in clinical toxicology and physicians in India and wrote a guideline on the topic “Critical Care for Clinical Toxicology in Resource-Poor Regions” for the care of patients with poisoning from recreational drugs, especially in resource-poor facilities.

The APAMT – 2023 Conference is committed to educating the general public and government agencies about poison information and control, chemical control, and safety. The theme of the meeting is “Critical Care for Clinical Toxicology in Resource Poor Regions.” Many international and national experts will discuss various aspects of pesticide exposure, prevention, detection, and treatment. The meeting will also focus on locally prevalent snake envenomation and plant toxins.

On September 16th, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan, from the Department of Preventive & Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University, served as an invited speaker on the topic  “Effects of water-soluble mangosteen extract on cognitive function and neuropsychiatric symptoms in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease (WECAN-AD): a randomized controlled trial” at the 11th International Phytonutrient Symposium 2023 (IPS 2023) and the 14th Asian Congress of Nutrition (ACN 2023) in China. Also, he shared his experience and knowledge in the panel discussion “Importance of Phytonutrients in super-aged society: discussion on the role of phytonutrients in science perspectives.”

The Federation of Asian Nutrition Societies (FANS), established in 1973, organizes the ACN every four years. This year’s theme, “Feeding the Future by Sustainable Nutrition,” aims to unite nutrition researchers and experts from Asia and beyond to exchange the latest scientific knowledge and foster collaboration.

The MoU Renewal Signing Ceremony Between Siriraj and NCGG of Japan!
On July 11th, 2023, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and Dr. Hidenori Arai, President of the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (NCGG) and the Administrative Members of both institutes, including Clin. Prof. Visit Vamvanit, Director of Siriraj Hospital, and Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan, Head of the Division of Geriatrics, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, presided over the “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Renewal Signing Ceremony” between Siriraj and NCGG. This MOU aims to support and promote cooperation in the fields of education, research, and academic services, including academic and educational exchange, for the mutual benefit of both parties.

Siriraj Takes the Stage at IFA’s 16th Global Conference!
On June 28th, 2023, Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan from the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited as a distinguished speaker to share his expertise at the IFA’s 16th Global Conference at Presidential Symposium on the topic ‘A life-course approach to vaccination to achieve health equity in Asia and beyond’ at Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park, Bangkok.
With his expertise in preventive and social medicine, he shared valuable insights emphasizing the significance of preventative vaccinations in improving adult immunization rates worldwide. Additionally, he highlighted the importance of considering life course immunization within the framework of healthy aging, emphasizing the burden of infectious diseases in older adults and providing insights specific to the South-East Asian context.
The International Federation on Ageing (IFA) is a global NGO that advocates for the rights and well-being of aging populations. Its membership includes various entities and spans 75 countries. The IFA promotes initiatives on aging.
The IFA’s 16th Global Conference on Ageing, titled “Challenge, Transformation, Change,” presents a significant opportunity to shape policies that enhance the quality of life for current and future older individuals. Against the backdrop of global population aging and aligned with the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing, the conference will delve into five key themes: digital technologies and practice, older women, maintaining and improving function, immunization for all ages, and age-friendly environments.

On July 12th, 2023, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with Clin. Prof. Visit Vamvanit, the Director of Siriraj Hospital, and Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan, the Head of the Division of Geriatrics in the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Geriatrics and Gerontology in Japan. The visit aimed to explore opportunities for future collaboration between the two institutions.

During the visit, H.E. Singtong Lapisatepun, the Ambassador of the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, warmly welcomed our faculty members. The discussions took place at the Royal Thai Embassy in Tokyo, where they exchanged ideas and perspectives on potential collaboration and cooperation between the Thai and Japanese institutions.

This meeting demonstrates the dedication of Japan’s top institutes and Siriraj to improving medical research and developing innovations in geriatrics and gerontology. It emphasizes the significance of global collaborations in advancing healthcare and addressing the requirements of a growing elderly population.

On May 27th, 2023, Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited to be a guest speaker about dementia at the “International Conference on Integrated Care in Old People with Dementia” hosted by the Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan. This conference was focused on medical treatment, mental problems management and care for older people with noncommunicable diseases (e.g., dementia).

International Academic Conference “Integrated Self Care and Care for Older People”
During March 30th-31st, 2023, the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University hosted the International Academic Conference “Integrated Self Care and Care for Older People” in collaboration with the Thai Society of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine and Abbott at the SiMR building, brought together experts in the field of gerontology and geriatric medicine to discuss advancements in healthy aging and self-care for the elderly.
The conference was opened with remarks from Prof. Suroj Supavekin, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Assoc. Prof. Winai Ratanasuwan, Director of Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SiCRES) and Chairperson of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Prof.Prasert Assantachai, Assoc.Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan from the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, and Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, the Deputy Dean for Corporate Communications and International Relations.
The keynote lecture of the conference was delivered by Dr. Austen El-Osta, Director of the Self-Care Academic Research Unit (SCARU) at Imperial College London, UK on the topic “A whistlestop tour of ICOPE concept, self-care & person-centered care” and “Self-care policy & practice”. In addition, a workshop on “Self-care & Self-management guideline for individual, family, community & in-hospital setting” was led by Prof. Prasert Assantachai, Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan, Asst. Prof. Patcharawan Srisilapanan, Asst. Prof. Suwimol Sapwarobol, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kwanjai Amnatsatsue, and Dr. Arunee Laiteearpong.

On September 20th, 2022, Prof.Dr.Prasert Assantachai and Prof.Dr.Weerasak Muangpaisan of Division of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attending an online meeting between Siriraj and Tan Tock Seng Hospital, “The 1st Siriraj – TTSH Bilateral Sharing – Innovative Health Care Model for Healthy Aging”, to discuss on the topics: Preventive and primary health care model to support care connection for older people, Clinical care streams extending beyond acute hospital settings, and Building partnerships and digital Technology to enable care models.





On August 10-12, 2022, Prof.Dr.Prasert Assantachai of Division of Geriatric Medicine, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited as a guest speaker on the topic “Aligning a health system with a new normal to serve the needs of older people during the epidemic outbreaks recovery” and “The way forward and closing remark” at the international forum “ACAI International conference on Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology 2022” Theme: “Towards Post-COVID Recovery for ageing and innovations” hosted by ASEAN Centre for Active Ageing and Innovation (ACAI).
