International Pediatric Palliative Care Delegation Visits SiNMD at Siriraj Hospital
The Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, welcomed international experts in pediatric palliative care for a study visit to the Siriraj Center of Neuromuscular Disease (SiNMD) on Thursday, 6 August 2026. The visit reaffirmed Siriraj’s commitment to holistic, family-centered care for children living with complex neuromuscular and neurological conditions.
The five-member delegation comprised:
- Prof. Srivieng Pairojkul, MD, President of the Thai Palliative Care Society (THAPS)
- Dr. Duenpen Horatanaruang, MD, Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand
- Ms. Naree Ninnang, Registered Nurse, Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand
- Dr. Chong Poh Heng, Medical Director, HCA Hospice, Singapore
- Mr. Cheng Tah Nern, Executive, Asia Pacific Hospice Palliative Care Network (APHN)
Led by Prof. Oranee Sanmaneechai, MD, Director of SiNMD, together with Ms. Arisa Phochaisarn and the SiNMD team, demonstrated Siriraj’s multidisciplinary, team-based approach. The center brings together nurses, nutritionists, therapists, special education teachers, and researchers to support children and families holistically. The team collaborates to address physical, psychosocial, and practical needs, aiming to improve quality of life and minimize the burden of hospital visits.
During the visit, the SiNMD team presented Siriraj’s integrated model, emphasizing the incorporation of pediatric palliative care from diagnosis through long-term follow-up. The discussion highlighted coordination among hospital services, community providers, and families to ensure continuity of care focused on quality of life at home.
The visit formed part of the lead-up to the Pediatric Palliative Care Conference 2026, co-organized by THAPS and APHN and scheduled for 10–11 August 2026 at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. The exchange of experiences between SiNMD, THAPS, and APHN will help strengthen collaboration and advance pediatric palliative care services and professional training in Thailand and across the Asia-Pacific region.
