The Prince Mahidol Award 2024 Laureates’ Honorary Lectures at Siriraj
On January 29th, 2025, as a longstanding tradition, the Prince Mahidol Award Laureates visit the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, the prestigious host and founder of the Prince Mahidol Award, to deliver honorary lectures highlighting their outstanding contributions to medical sciences and public health worldwide.
At 9:30 AM, the PMA 2024 Laureates arrived:
- Prof. Tony Hunter, PhD (UK/USA), PMA 2024 Laureates in Medicine.
- Prof. Jonathan P. Shepherd, DDSc, PhD (UK), PMA 2024 Laureates in Public Health.
The Laureates were warmly welcomed by Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, MD, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital and Vice-Chairman of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation under Royal Patronage, alongside administrative and board members of the Faculty. The Laureates then paid respects at the statue of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol of Songkla before concluding the welcoming session with a group photo alongside Siriraj’s executive members.
At 9:45 AM, the Laureates visited the Prince Mahidol Hall of Fame to explore a collection of Prince Mahidol’s rare possessions and learn about his immense contributions to modern medicine in Thailand.
At 12:00 PM, a Faculty Luncheon was held at the Sirindhorn Conference Room to honor the Laureates’ significant contributions and achievements.
Following the luncheon at 1:30 PM, the Laureates delivered honorary lectures at the Rachapanaddasirindhorn Auditorium, Srisavarindira Building.
Prof. Tony Hunter presented “From the Discovery of Tyrosine Phosphorylation to Histidine Phosphorylation: Uncovering New Cancer Targets Along the Way.”
Prof. Jonathan P. Shepherd delivered a lecture on “The Cardiff Model for Violence Prevention.”
