History of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine
In the year 1958, the unit of preventive medicine was originally set up in the Department of Medicine with 3 full-time staffs: Professor Mukda Trishnananda, Dr. Pairoj Oonsombat, and Mrs. Benjang Tiengpitak. This unit was promoted sequentially becoming an independent unit with its own single-room office, 32 square meters, on the Regarding the manpower of the Department, there are 15 instructors, 8 paramedical personnel, 4 administrative personnel and 13 general workers currently employed in the Department. With the increasing role of disease prevention within the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Department of Preventive & Social Medicine was, then, officially founded in the year 1969. As a result, a special budget of 1.5 million baths under the fiscal year of 1971 was allocated to build the official building of the Department which was situated next to the Pa-Ob building. This 2-storeyed building was completed in 1975 and used as the permanent official office of the Department since then. The building was later extended to be a 6-floor building as seen nowadays.ground floor of the main administrative building.
