History of Department of Psychiatry
The Department of Psychiatry is one of the major institution in Bangkok Metropolitan area that is dedicated to quality clinical services, excellent training and education, and innovative research. It consists of 3 major divisions i.e. general psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry and clinical psychology.
The department has 23 faculty, 30 psychiatry residents and fellows and 30 postgraduate clinical psychology students. Clinically we have a full range of clinical programs for patient with psychiatric and substance abuse disorders, including 15 acute inpatient beds, outpatient services, emergency psychiatry services and expert consultation services to medical patients with co-morbid psychiatric disorders Services are delivered in a comprehensive, multidisciplinary, coordinated and cost-effective manner that meets the needs of patients, families and the community
In the area of training and education , the Department has a wide array of educational experiences both for undergraduate and graduate students .We also have residency training in General Psychiatry and Child and adolescent Psychiatry . It provides both didactic and clinical learning experience for Siriraj students as well as students from other part of the country.
Research activities of the Department are characterized by their diversity , ranging from consultation liaison services , genetic aspect of mood disorders to application of Buddhist psychotherapy for adolescents . In addition , the Department has initiated efforts to develop centers of excellence in emerging specialty areas of psychiatry including child and adolescent psychiatry ( Learning Skill Improvement Clinic for LD ) , Mood Hygiene Center for mood disorder patients , School Mental Health program in communities . Due to the burden of service , we also have the ‘ From Routine to Research ‘ program such as development of restraint guidelines , to emphasize the importance of clinical research and integrate the finding into the better care of patients.
