SiMSET – History

SiMSET consist of 4 centers

  • On the 10th floor Adulayadejvikrom Building consisted of 3 centers: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Simulation and Medical gas
  • On the 4th floor Srisavarindira Building, the center calls SiTEC (Siriraj Training and Education Center for Clinical skills), the center for practice clinical skills in cavader.

CPR History

CPR Center (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation Center) had attempted to establish since 1997 by Prof. Dr. Parinya Sakiyalak, Department of Surgery and Prof. Dr. Preecha Opasanon, Department of Anesthesiology. Due to Siriraj is the large government hospital, it’s difficultly to establish CPR center to take care all of the area in hospital at that moment. However, Prof. Dr. Sumalee Nimmannit  Head of Internal Medicine Department assign Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pradit Panchavinnin  Division of Cardiology, Prof. Dr. Direk Chulachata Head of Anesthesiology department and Prof. Dr. Suwannee Suraseranivongse to design CPR code 7 teams. After attempt to establish CPR center for a long time. In 2003 Prof. Dr.  Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital cooperated with Office of the director to establish CPR center. The first chairman is Prof. Dr. Suwannee Suraseranivongse. Later, the Center was established at the Nutrition Building 5FL, advancing the development, saving cost, and producing revenue for the Faculty from fee-based trainings offered.

SiTEC History

In 2011, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Teerawat Kulthanan, had attempted to establish the Siriraj Training and Education Center for Clinical Skills (SiTEC). He assigned Prof. Dr. Chairat Chayakul , Dean of post-graduate education division ( 2008-2011), to perform and official establish on April 2nd 2013  in the period of the Dean Prof. Dr. Udom Kachintorn.Authorized Prof. Dr. Suwannee Suraseranivongse, Associate Dean of post-graduate education division, as an Executive chief of SiTEC.SiTEC located at the Srisavarindhira Building 4FL, to organize training on surgical  skills using cadavers and simulation. In 2011, the Faculty established the Siriraj Training and Education Center for Clinical Skills (SiTEC), located at the Srisavarindhira Building 4FL, to organize training on surgical  skills using cadavers and simulation.  Later, a new development was initiated to relocate the Siriraj CPR Training Center, the Medical Gas Division and to build the SiTEC 2, into an adjacent area, located at the Adulyadejvikrom Building 10FL.  This was due to similarities of the nature of these three facilities so that sharing resources allow a significant cost saving.  With a new management structure, the Director of the Medical School was appointed as the chair of establishment of the “Siriraj Medical Simulation Center for Education and Training (SiMSET)” project, under Office of the Dean.  This strategic initiative is a key development for education and academic services of Siriraj, to improve patient care quality and patient safety through skill development of health care professionals as well as both undergraduate and graduate students.  The goal of SiMSET is to become an accredited training center of choice at both the national and international, in the ASEAN region, levels.  SiMSET is the first comprehensive simulation training center in Thailand.

Simulation History

Simulation Centers in Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital

Current medical practices increasingly focus on patient safety and quality including
patient right. Moreover, rapid spread of news and information via social media also increase
patient concern. They do not want medical students practicing on them. These result in
inadequately trained medical students. Therefore, medical simulations are necessary in current
medical education to bridge the educational gaps between classroom and clinical environment.

Medical simulators include cadavers, electronic high fidelity manikins, low fidelity
manikins, part task, standardized patients and simulated computer program.

Selection of simulation modalities depend on specific learning outcomes such as low
fidelity manikins or part task trainers are suitable for basic procedural skills, cadaveric
workshops are suitable for advanced procedural or surgical skills, standardized patients are
suitable for skills in history taking, physical examination and counseling including clinical
reasoning and management, electronic high fidelity manikins are suitable for clinical reasoning
and management in special situations including crisis team management.

There are 3 Simulation centers in Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.

1) SIMSET (Siriraj Medical Simulation for Education and Training) is located on 10 th
floor of Aduldejvikrom building. This center serves advanced clinical skill training
with electronic high fidelity manikins or standardized patients in simulated general
wards, ICU, emergency room and operating theaters for medical students, residents,
national and international training for physicians and health professionals.
Additionally, there is simulated medical gas delivery system for in house, national
and international training.

2) SICSC (Siriraj Clinical Skills Center) ) is located on 3 rd floor of Aduldejvikrom
building. This center serves basic procedural skill training with low fidelity manikins
or part task trainers and basic clinical skills with standardized patients for medical
students and health. professional students.

3) SiTEC (Siriraj Training and Education Center for Surgical and Procedural Skills) is
located on 4 th floor of Srisavarindhira building. This center serves advanced
procedural and surgical skill training with cadavers for residency programs, national
and international training.
