” Dementia Guide Book “
In cooperation with the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology, Japan.

Dementia will be one of the most prevalent diseases to Thai society in the near future because it is more common with increasing age. The proportion and number of Thai senior citizen are increasing rapidly. People with dementia have problems with psychomental health and physical health. Apart from the decline in their memory and other brain function, they also had behavioral and psychological symptoms and impairment in their daily activities. Although this disease still can’t be cured, the sufficient health promotion and lifestyle changes can prevent its occurrence in around one-third of the at-risk population.


The main objective of this project is to educate people to have more knowledge towards the symptoms and impact on people affected and their family. The risk and protective factors are identified to prevent the condition. The project also aims to make good attitude and reduce the stigma of dementia in community. We aim to create a dementia-friendly environment to help people live well with dementia and remain a part of their community. This would make people with dementia being understood and receiving respect for their dignity as a person who has created goodness in the society which ultimately has a good quality of life even when the disease is severe.

On March 4th, 2019, Prof. Emeritus Pakit Vichyanond, Director, Samitivej Allergy Institute (SAI) along with Dr. Surangkana Techapaitoon, Deputy CEO of Samitivej Hospital, Prof. Dr. Prasert Auewarakul, Deputy Dean of Research, Asst.Prof. Punchama Pacharn and Lecturer Witchaya Srisuwatchari from Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital joined handed together for signing the MOU between Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, The Samitivej Allergy Institute and the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The MOU initially highlighted the collaboration on research in the wheat allergy (epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment).
The group from Siriraj and SAI received a warm welcome by Dr. Dennis Charney, Dean of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Dr. Scott Sicherer, the current Director of the Jaffe Food Allergy Institute and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Allergy & Immunology at Mount Sinai

Prof. Suwannee Suraseranivongse, Deputy Dean and Director of Siriraj Medical School presided over “Beyond Compressions Workshop: Resuscitation Best Practices” at the meeting room 3A, 3rd floor, Srisavarindhira Building, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.
The workshop held on March 3rd – 4th, 2019 with the objective that to enhance knowledge about resuscitation and improve an understanding on the advanced equipment provided by speakers from many renowned institutes e.g. Annette Fasnacht, Vice President, Global Marketing, Resuscitation, ZOLL Medical Corporation, Daniel Davis, MD, FACEP, Founder of the ART Program and CEO of Medical X Technologies, USA, Gi-woon Kim, MD, PhD, Director of Emergency Department, Soon Chun Hyang University Hospital Bucheon, South Korea, etc

On March 4th, 2019, Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital along with Prof. Prasert Assantachai, Deputy Dean, and Assoc.Prof. Suroj Supavekin, Deputy Dean of Human Resources, welcome Prof. Hidenori Arai, Director of National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology Hospital (NCGG), Japan, Prof. Hidetoshi Endo, Director of Department of Comprehensive Geriatric Medicine and Dr. Yuichi Kitagawa to visit Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital and discuss on the New Model of Dementia Care in Thailand.
On this occasion, three experts from NCGG, Japan, also delivered the lectures on Dementia care at the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.
In the evening of March 4th, 2019, Prof. Endo and Dr. Kitagawa has attended the complimentary dinner hosted by Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.
