The annual Global Academic Programs (GAP) Conference is a forum where MD Anderson Cancer Center and its global network of hospitals, health systems, and research institutions collaborate to develop impactful, innovative ideas and research that help MD Anderson achieve its mission to end cancer globally.

This conference centers on the theme “New Frontiers – Leading Inspired Cancer Care” to highlighting global collaborations that bring to light clinical and translational research, population health, and government engagement initiatives. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, GAP2020 will be held as a virtual event, coming to your nearest screen from November 16th – 19th, 2020. The conference program is listed in the Melbourne time zone – AEDT.

Siriraj Faculty Abroad at Virtual EFORT Congress 2020

On October 28th  – 30th, 2020, Lecturer Dr. Pakpoom Ruangsomboon of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, has given the podium presentation via the Virtual EFORT platform on the topic “An Evaluation of the Effect of Mecobalaminon the Change of Area of Skin Numbness After Total Knee Arthroplasty: a Randomized Double-Blinded Placebo-Controlled Trial” at the VIRTUAL EFORT CONGRESS 2020.

The European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT) was established by the national associations for orthopaedics and traumatology from twenty European countries. The Federation was founded in Marentino, Italy, in 1991, and today has 41 national member societies from 39 member countries, as well as 13 associate scientific members.

FREE Online Professional Development Program

The Australian Government through Austrade Bangkok is inviting all Siriraj’s personnel to join FREE Online ASEAN Professional Development Training Program on the topic of “Digital Tools and Strategies for Enhancing Learning through English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI)” delivered by The University of Queensland which will be held on Wednesday, November 4th, 2020, at 10:30 am (Thailand time).

This presentation will appeal to all teachers, lecturers, academics, and educators who teach English language skills or teach content using English as a medium of instruction (CLIL/EMI). This online program will examine some key learning strategies that enhance learning and explore some FREE digital tools that increase learner motivation and promote interaction in both online and face-to-face classrooms.

Participants will receive a certificate after the webinar.

The 1st International Mental Health Virtual Conference

The Department of Mental Health, Ministry of Public Health, Thailand, and the Embassy of United Kingdom, co-hosted the “1st International Mental Health Virtual Conference” on the theme “Mental Health Challenges: Stress, Depression, Burnout, Suicide Situation and Management” on November 18th, 2020. The conference was supported by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Siriraj Hospital Adopt “NVIDIA DGX A100” Systems

Siriraj Hospital will be the first hospital in Southeast Asia to adopt two NVIDIA DGX A100 systems for medical research and clinical applications. Officially launched in May 2020, the NVIDIA DGX A100 is the world’s first AI system built on the NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPU.

Department of Radiology, Siriraj Hospital is the first in Thailand to explore research and clinical application of AI on radiology images, including plain radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and ultrasonography. Every day, the amount of data is massive, making it difficult for radiologists to analyze and interpret in a timely manner required for clinical efficiency.

Siriraj Hospital leveraged AI in a solution that includes two NVIDIA DGX A100 systems, two workstations with NVIDIA V100 GPUs, six workstations with NVIDIA P6000 GPUs, as well as NVIDIA Clara, CUDA, cuDNN, and TensorRT.

The new GPU is 40 times faster and the accuracy is increased. The CPU is not practical for research and clinical applications. Through the NVIDIA GPUs, the clinical workflows can proceed smoothly without any bottlenecks. In emergency situations, faster interpretation of images can help doctors make better treatment decisions to save patients’ lives!

NVIDIA Clara is enabling hospitals to innovate and accelerate the journey to precision medicine. The decision by Siriraj Hospital to invest in an NVIDIA-based AI solution empowers its radiologists to make faster and more accurate decisions that in turn will save more lives, as well as create a blueprint that healthcare facilities in the region can use to adopt leading-edge technologies that will dramatically improve patient care and outcomes.

Since an increasing number of students plan to enroll in universities outside of their own country, the Best Global Universities rankings – which focus specifically on schools’ academic research and reputation overall and not on their separate undergraduate or graduate programs – can help those applicants accurately compare institutions around the world.

The overall Best Global Universities rankings encompass nearly 1,500 top institutions spread across 86 countries, up from 81 countries last year.
