Mr. Waranyoo Prasong from the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, participated in the “8th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Society for Medical Mycology (APSMM2024)”, held in Kyoto, Japan, from November 5th – 9th, 2024. He delivered an oral presentation titled “The Study of Diagnostic Accuracy in Diagnosing Dermatophytosis Using Dermatophyte Test Medium”. This experience proved transformative for Mr. Prasong, offering critical insights and practical approaches that can be directly applied to diagnostic processes in Siriraj’s dermatology clinics.

Mr. Akkarapong Plengpanich, a research officer from the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “8th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Society for Medical Mycology (APSMM2024)” in Kyoto, Japan, held from November 5th – 9th, 2024. He presented his study titled “The In-vitro Study of Factors Affecting Fungal Nail Perforation Detected by Histologic Evaluation”.

APSMM2024 served as a vital platform for global exchange on advancements in medical mycology, fostering collaboration across institutions. Mr. Plengpanich aims to apply the insights gained to further Siriraj’s research initiatives in fungal diseases on an international scale.

Ms. Chatisa Panyawong, a scientist from the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “8th Congress of the Asia-Pacific Society for Medical Mycology (APSMM2024)” in Kyoto, Japan, held from November 5th – 9th, 2024. She presented an oral presentation titled “A 10-year Retrospective Study of Histopathological Features of Onychomycosis and Associated Factors with Cure”. Ms. Panyawong aims to leverage insights from this congress to further her expertise in fungal research, enhance her knowledge of pathogenic fungi, and receive valuable feedback to advance her career.

This is the first time Japan has hosted the APSMM Congress, creating a unique platform for medical mycologists in the Asia-Pacific to exchange professional insights and foster collaborations.

The MIT Sloan School of Management recently launched its Global Programs with the Beyond Years: The Future of Longevity conference, held on October 31st – November 1st, 2024, at Capella Bangkok Hotel, Thailand. This private, invitation-only event focused on aging and longevity in the ASEAN region and convened MIT faculty, policymakers, healthcare experts, and innovators to discuss emerging themes related to the challenges and opportunities in an aging society.

Representing Siriraj, Professor Weerasak Muangpaisan, M.D., Chairman of the Siriraj Academic Center of Geriatric Medicine (SiACG), Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, joined as an invited panelist. His participation on the “Healthcare Practitioner” panel addressed critical medical considerations for aging populations in ASEAN, highlighting the evolving needs of geriatric care and the hurdles healthcare providers face in meeting these demands.

The conference, hosted as part of the new MIT Sloan ASEAN Office‘s debut, included sessions on key areas such as “Imagining Wellbeing for Longevity”, “Designing the Context for Longevity”, and “Financing Longevity”. The event underscored the importance of innovative solutions and forward-thinking policies as ASEAN nations experience a demographic shift toward older populations.

Dr. Nantakorn Pariyavatkul, a second-year fellow in gynecologic oncology from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, is currently participating in the “Observership Program in Gynecologic Oncology” at the Gynaecological Cancer Centre of the Royal Hospital for Women (RHW) and the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. This program is scheduled from November 1st – 28th, 2024.

Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University, along with Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations, Prof. Dr. Uraiwan Panich, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacology, and Prof. Dr. Somponnat Sampattavanich, warmly welcomed Prof. Dr. Sheng-Hong Chen. An expert in Cancer Biology, Cellular Dynamics, and Systems Biology, Prof. Chen is affiliated with the Institute of Molecular Biology, Academia Sinica in Taiwan and will serve as the International Siriraj Visiting Scholar at the Department of Pharmacology from October 28th – November 1st, 2024.

During his visit, Prof. Chen presented a special seminar titled “Surfing the Waves of Cell Death during Embryonic Development and Human Pathologies: Ferroptotic Trigger Waves,” which took place on October 31st, 2024, in Room 1212, 12th Floor, Srisavarindhira Building. This seminar highlighted his recent publication in Nature, discussing the emergence of large-scale cell death through ferroptotic trigger waves.

Welcome Sereyrith Hor Heng, a 4th-year medical student from International University, Cambodia, to undertake elective study at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.
