Dr. Kam Ming Long, MBBS, MM, CMIA, CCWC (left), an orthopaedic fellow from Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Malaysia, participated in the Foot and Ankle Surgery Fellowship Attachment at the Division of Foot and Ankle, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Bavornrit Chuckpaiwong, MD (right), Chief of the Foot and Ankle Surgery Division, and Prof.Keerati Chareancholvanich, MD (center), Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, the program runs from February 3rd – 14th, 2025.

On January 28, 2025, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, MD, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, together with Ms. Saima Wazed, Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia, along with Prof. Keerati Charoencholvanich, MD, Chairman of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, presided over the signing ceremony of the “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Trauma, Injury, and Fall Prevention” between WHO and Siriraj.

This MOU aims to strengthen collaboration on trauma, injury, and fall prevention across the WHO South-East Asia Region to address the growing health, social, and economic challenges posed by these issues. The partnership provides a unique opportunity to leverage Siriraj’s expertise in building capacity, strengthening evidence-based practices, and fostering deeper collaboration throughout the Region.

On January 6th, 2025, Asst. Prof. Monchai Ruangchainikom, M.D., and Asst. Prof. Sirichai Wilartratsami, M.D., warmly welcomed Dr. Mandeep Karki from Nepal Orthopaedic Hospital, Nepal, to begin his Clinical Observership Program in Spine Surgery at the Spine Surgery Division, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Panya Luksanapruksa, M.D., from January 6th – April 4th, 2025.

This program, taking place from January 6th to March 31st, 2025, is conducted under the supervision of Lecturer Ekavit Keyurapan, MD (far right), Assistant Professor Phob Ganokroj, MD, and Lecturer Chanin Lamsam, MD.

On November 29th, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitphongpan, Deputy Dean of Corporate Communication and International Relation, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, welcomed a delegation from the First Affiliated Hospital of Yunnan University of Chinese Medicine Led by Mr. Haichao Gu, on visit and discussion to strengthen collaboration in medical education and advanced healthcare.

Delegates toured the Spinal Unit and the Center of Applied Thai Traditional Medicine, observing cutting-edge treatments and holistic care practices.

Rodriguez Hospital, the Phillippines, to undertake the “Clinical Observership Program in Orthopaedic Oncology” at the Division of Orthopaedic Oncology, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Rapin Phimolsarnti, MD (right) and Assistant Professor Chandhanarat Chandhanayingyong, MD, from November 25th, 2024 – May 23rd, 2025.

On November 23rd, 2024, the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, led by Dean Prof. Apichat Asavamonkolkul, MD, joined hands with Bhutan’s Jigme Dorji Wangchuck National Referral Hospital to organize the hybrid clinical conference “2024 Orthopaedic Knowledge Sharing Bhutan-Thailand Ties” in Thimphu, Bhutan. This collaborative event underscored the strong academic and medical ties between the two nations, aiming to enhance orthopaedic knowledge and practices in the region.

Key sessions covered a wide array of topics presented by Siriraj’s distinguished faculty, such as “Tips and Tricks in Total Knee Replacement”, “Management of Spinal Surgery”, “Common Shoulder Problems and Management”. Other highlights included discussions on orthopaedic oncology, pediatric anomalies, and advances in hip and hand surgeries. Bhutanese expertise was also showcased on “Arthroplasty in Bhutan”.

This event marked another milestone in fostering academic exchange and strengthening the Bhutan-Thailand partnership in healthcare, reflecting Siriraj’s commitment to regional medical development and excellence.

During November 20th – 22nd, 2024, Prof. Aasis Unnanuntana, MD, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “16th Working Conference of Indonesian Orthopaedic Association (IOA) 2024″ in Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia, as a guest speaker on two topics: “Denosumab, The Novel and Current Treatment for Osteoporotic Fracture” and “State of the Art to Manage Osteoporotic Fracture”.

Prof. Unnanuntana’s involvement will benefit Siriraj Hospital by fostering a network for future collaboration and enhancing the hospital’s international visibility.

The IOA conference is the largest national conference on Orthopaedic surgery in the Republic of Indonesia which aims to show the latest research findings, best practices, and innovations in orthopaedic practice.
