On October 25th, 2022, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with the administrative members of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and Dr. David Jacoby, Dean and Executive Vice President of the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU), USA, and his administrative members, presided over the “Signatory Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the Funding Support of Promoting Research Collaborations between the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU),” which will be effective from January 1st, 2023, onwards.

Dr. Suyanee Thongchot, a researcher from the Department of Research, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended as an invited speaker and delivered an oral presentation on the topic “The Molecular Mechanisms Driving Tumor Budding in Colorectal Cancer Through Autophagy Pathway” at “The 6th Cancer World Congress 2022: Personalized Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy” in Lisbon, Portugal, between September 28th – 30th, 2022. Dr. Suyanee Thongchot aims to share ideas with 130 scientists from 22 counties to develop her new research project, including the multicultural exchange. She brought all the knowledge and experiences from this meeting to develop her teaching at the Department of Immunology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.

The 6th Cancer World Congress 2022 is a congress that gathers academicians and young inspired scientists from all around the world with the aim of strengthening international cooperation in the fight against Cancer. Another major goal of this Conference is to create an atmosphere of interactions between young and senior scientists to favor novel cooperation that shall bring new and more efficacious strategies to understand and fight Cancer.

During September 7th – 9th, 2022, Mr. Thaweesak Chieochansin, Ph.D., a senior researcher from the Division of Molecular Medicine, Department of Research, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended an international conference “European School of Hematology’s 6th Translational Research Conference-Multiple Myeloma” in France and delivered a research poster presentation on the topic “Molecular Dynamics Simulation Reveals the Binding Ability of Predicted New York Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma-1 (NY-ESO-1) Peptide Loaded on HLA-A*02:01 for Potential Used as Cancer Vaccine to Treat Multiple Myeloma.”

This conference is intended to emphasize cutting-edge basic and clinical research and future treatment prospects for multiple myeloma. Intentionally, ample time is allocated for in-depth scientific discussion and interaction. The conference allowed for informal scientific exchange with the world’s foremost experts in treating multiple myeloma. The most recent treatment guidelines and inside information about the treatment have been provided in depth by experts who have conducted numerous clinical studies and collected real-world data. Moreover, the conference allowed participants and experts to establish connections. It will be of great benefit not only to basic research but also to the clinical care of Siriraj Hospital’s multiple myeloma patients.

On September 2nd, 2022, Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, along with Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery; Prof. Thawatchai Akaraviputh, Deputy Dean of Administration Division; Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for International Relations; Prof. Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit, Director of Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SICRES); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vitoon Chinswangwatanakul, Director of Siriraj Cancer Center; Assoc. Prof. Sith Sathornsumetee, the Manager of Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management Unit (SiCORE-M); and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adada Methasate from Siriraj’s Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit; visit the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, University of Tokyo, to meet Prof. Shigeo Okabe, Dean of the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, and his administrative members to discuss on the collaboration between Siriraj and the Graduate School of Medicine and Faculty of Medicine, The University of Tokyo.

On September 2nd, 2022, Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, along with Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Chairman of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery; Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for International Relations; Prof. Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit, Director of Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SICRES); and Assoc. Prof. Sith Sathornsumetee, the Manager of Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management Unit (SiCORE-M); visited the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM) to discuss with Prof. Dr. Norihiro Kokudo, President of the NCGM, and his administrative members, on the future clinical research between Siriraj and NCGM including the “ARISE Network (ARO Alliance for ASEAN & East Asia)” which has been established to promote the Multi-Regional Clinical Trial (MRCT) in the Asian region.

On September 1st, 2022, Prof. Takanori Kanai, Dean of Keio University School of Medicine, and Mr. Hiroki Yamamoto of the International Office, Keio University School of Medicine, welcomed the administrative members of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, led by Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Chairman of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery; Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for International Relations; Prof. Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit, Director of Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SICRES); Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vitoon Chinswangwatanakul, Director of Siriraj Cancer Center; Assoc. Prof. Sith Sathornsumetee, the Manager of Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management Unit (SiCORE-M); and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adada Methasate from Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit; on a visit and discussion about the collaborations between Siriraj and Keio University School of Medicine in medical student exchange and academic exchange in Surgery/Orthopedics Surgery.

Siriraj Center of Research Excellence for Cancer Immunotherapy (SiCORE-CIT) has published an article about alternative immunotherapy in breast cancer “Adoptive Transfer of Anti-Nucleolin T Cells Combined with PD-L1 Inhibition against Triple-Negative Breast Cancer” on the world-renowned journal Molecular Cancer Therapeutics Volume 21, Issue 5, May 1st, 2022 (https://doi.org/10.1158/1535-7163.mct-21-0823).

Molecular Cancer Therapeutics is a journal published on translational research studies focused on the discovery and preclinical development of therapeutic agents for oncology.

Congratulations to Lect. Dr. Juthathip Mongkolsapaya, Deputy Chief of the Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Research Unit, Office for Research and Development, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pongsakorn Tantilipikorn, Vice Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Chief of the Rhinology & Allergy Division, after they were ranked as the 2nd and 3rd most highly cited researchers in the list of Mahidol University’s Top 10 Highest Citation Per Publication 2018 – 2021!

February 8th, 2022, Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Allergy & Immunology (SiCORE-Allergy & Immunology) has been certified as a World Allergy Organization Center of Excellence (WCOE)! WAO Centers of Excellence intensify and accelerate multidisciplinary scientific and clinical innovation, education, and advocacy worldwide providing excellence in education, research, training to various stakeholders in allergy, asthma, and clinical immunology. Congratulations!

The 3rd Teleconference Research and Innovation Advisory Committee in 2021, is virtually held as two-day meeting for different time zones includes November 12, 2021 for the committee members from the US, Australia and South Korea and November 19,2021 for the members in Europe, Israel and Bangkok. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Banchong Mahaisavariya M.D., President of Mahidol University and Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, along with executive members and Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management (SiCORE-M) welcomed the distinguished Research and Innovation Advisory Committee members.

On November 19, 2021, the advisory board received the brief updates from Deputy Dean for Research, SiCORE-M and the representatives of each SiCOREs. During the meeting, the board discussed and provided recommendations on the strategic research management and supporting mechanisms at Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital. In the interactive session, there was discussion about the research progress from Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Allergy and Immunology (SiCORE-Allergy), Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Dengue and Emerging Pathogens (SiCORE-Dengue), Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Precision Medicine and Systems Pharmacology (SiCORE-PM&SP) and Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Cardiovascular Disease (SiCORE-Cardiovascular Disease).

This two-day meeting provided us with an invaluable opportunity that all those that participated in this meeting found it extremely beneficial and greatly welcomed the opportunity to exchange perspectives and from the experience of advisory committee members. Without doubt, the insightful comments and recommendations that we received from this meeting will be of great benefit in research transformation to our Faculty and eventually magnify a broader outcome in aspects of Thailand healthcare system in the future.
