Topics for applying Siriraj International Visiting Scholars Program

Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communications and International Relations, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Chalermchai Mitrpant from the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, recently welcomed Dr. Juan J. Tena, an expert in Bioinformatics, and Dr. Silvia Naranjo, a specialist in Epigenomics and Molecular Biology in Zebrafish, from the Centro Andaluz de Biología del Desarrollo (CSIC), Spain. They will serve as Siriraj Visiting Scholars at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, from July 30th to August 13th, 2024.

 

On May 27th, 2024, Prof. Somchai Leelakusolvong, Chairperson of the Department of Medicine, along with Assoc. Prof. Kanokwan Boonyapisit, Head of the Division of Neurology, Assoc. Prof. Vorapun Senanarong, Asst. Prof. Chatchawan Rattanabannakit, and Dr. Witsarut Nanthasi, welcomed Prof. Dr. Philippus Scheltens. Prof. Dr. Scheltens is an expert in dementia, including imaging in dementia, fluid biomarkers in dementia, and clinical trials in dementia, from the Alzheimer Disease Center at Vrije University Medical Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He will serve as a Siriraj Visiting Scholar at the Department of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, from May 27th – 31st, 2024.

During September 18th-22nd, 2023, Prof. Roja Rahimi, the Dean of the School of Persian Medicine at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) in Iran, specializing in Traditional Pharmacy, served as a visiting scholar at the Center of Applied Thai Traditional Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.

On this occasion, Prof. Rahimi and Dr. Arman Zarearan from the School of Persian Medicine, Tehran University of Medical Sciences also visited and discussed at Applied Thai Traditional Medicine Clinic and Mahidol University Salaya Campus, Nakhon Pathom.

On August 15th, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Kanograt Pornpanich, Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology; Prof. Ngamkae Ruangvaravate, Lecturer of the Department of Ophthalmology; and Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations, welcomed Prof. Dr. Lorna Elizabeth Edmunds, Head of Glaucoma Division, Casey Eye Institute, Oregon Health & Science University, USA, to serve as the visiting scholar at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, sharing her expertise in Glaucoma and Pediatric Glaucoma starting from August 15th-19th, 2023.

On June 19th, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations and Assoc. Prof. Gulapar Srisawasdi, Director of Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics, welcomed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wong Man Sang, an expert in Prosthetics and Orthotics from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong, to serve as the visiting scholar at Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, starting from June 19th-30th, 2023.

Welcome, Prof. Gregory J. Bancroft, Professor of London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK, to serve as Siriraj International Visiting Scholars at the Department of Immunology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, starting from May 22nd–June 2nd, 2022.

Prof. Bancroft is specialized in immunology, modeling, and vaccinology, with over 30 years of experience in this field. His current research relates to understanding the mechanisms of pathogenesis and the development of novel vaccines against two critical pathogenic bacteria, M. tuberculosis, and B. pseudomallei. Also, he uses approaches of experimental modeling, cell mediated immunity, and imaging in studies on the causative agent of melioidosis (B. pseudomallei), a significant cause of septic death in rural Thailand and northern Australia.

Clin. Prof. Chanean Ruansetakit, the Chairman of the Department of Surgery, along with the executive members of the Division of Trauma Surgery: Assoc. Prof. Chumpol Wongwanit, Head, Division of Vascular Surgery, Assoc. Prof. Kris Keorochana, Lecturer of Division of Trauma Surgery and Asst. Prof. Tongporn Wannatoop, welcomed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tal Martin Hörer, a specialist in Vascular Surgery, Trauma, Endovascular and Hybrid Methods for Resuscitation and Bleeding Control from the Department of Cardio-Thoracic and Vascular Surgery and Department of Surgery, Örebro University Hospital and University, Sweden, to serve as a visiting scholar at the Division of Trauma Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, starting from April 24th – 28th, 2023.
