Advancing Global Health: The Siriraj Traditional Medicine Conference 2026 Convenes in Bangkok

🗓️ 13-14 JULY 2026 — Medical professionals, researchers, and policymakers from over 20 nations, alongside representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), convened for the Siriraj Traditional Medicine Conference (SiTMC 2026). Co-hosted by the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine (DTAM) under Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health, the summit operates under a defining mandate: “Transforming Traditional Medicine into the Future of Healthcare.” 🏥

🩺 The event represents a significant interdisciplinary effort to integrate traditional therapeutic practices into evidence-based, modern healthcare systems. Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University, formally opened the proceedings, emphasizing the institution’s commitment to advancing research, education, and the seamless integration of traditional medicine into contemporary, patient-centered care.

💡 Echoing this vision, Dr. Tewan Thaneerat, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, highlighted that the conference showcases how traditional practices—when supported by empirical science—possess the capacity to drive global health innovation and establish sustainable healthcare models. 🌱

🔬 Guiding the academic direction of the summit, Conference Chair: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pravit Akarasereenont framed SiTMC 2026 as a vital multidisciplinary platform. He noted its primary objective is to move traditional medicine beyond cultural preservation, connecting international experts and policymakers to drive clinical applications through rigorous scientific validation.

💻 A prominent focus of the two-day summit is the intersection of heritage practices and advanced medical technology. Academic sessions and presentations explore how global health systems can align with the WHO Global Traditional Medicine Strategy (2025–2034) by utilizing artificial intelligence, metabolomics, multi-omics approaches, and cutting-edge quantum technologies to validate and personalize traditional diagnostics. Additional highlights include the introduction of regional integration models and digital innovation hubs designed to safely expand public access to comprehensive alternative care. 🧬

🌐 As global life expectancy increases and chronic disease management becomes more complex, SiTMC 2026 underscores a critical paradigm shift in international health policy. By subjecting time-tested practices to the rigors of modern science, global health leaders are laying the groundwork for a more sustainable, inclusive, and technologically advanced healthcare system for the future. ✨
