Announcement of the Prince Mahidol Award 2025
Bangkok, November 27th, 2025 — The 34th Prince Mahidol Award Laureates were officially announced at a joint press conference in the Prince Mahidol Memorial Room, Siriraj Hospital.
Opening remarks were delivered by Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University and Vice-President of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation; Clin. Prof. Emeritus Supat Vanichakarn, Secretary-General of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation under the Royal Patronage; Mr. Panidone Pachimsawat, Deputy Director-General and representative of the Director-General, Department of Information, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, in his capacity as Chairman of the Sub-Committee on Public Relations of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation; and Prof. Emeritus Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Chairman of the International Award Committee of the Prince Mahidol Award Foundation.
The 2025 laureates are:
Medicine
• Dr. Terry Dean King (United States of America)
Public Health
• Prof. Walter C. Willett (United States of America)
This year’s selection process considered 47 nominations from 17 countries. The Scientific Advisory Committee re-examined outstanding applications from 2022–2024 before forwarding a shortlist to the International Award Committee. The Board of Trustees, presided over by H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, confirmed the final selections at its meeting on November 3rd, 2025.
The Prince Mahidol Award recognizes individuals and institutions whose work has made exceptional contributions to medicine and public health for the benefit of humanity.
