Siriraj Faculty Explores Groundbreaking Spinal Cord Treatment Technology in Shanghai

November 11th, 2025 – Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, MD, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, visited Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. He was accompanied by Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanicpongpan, MD, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations, and Asst. Prof. Sirichai Wilaratrasami, MD, from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

The delegation observed advancements in treating patients with spinal cord injuries using Closed-Loop Brain-Controlled Epidural Stimulation technology. This innovative approach enables neural signal communication from patients’ brains to weakened leg muscles, allowing movement restoration. Prof. Ding Jing and his team welcomed the Thai medical experts during their visit.
With continuous movement rehabilitation and gait training, this treatment method offers new hope for patients facing similar conditions in Thailand in the future.
