The Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University is committed to elevating international standards of care for patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) by utilizing advanced technologies and innovative surgical techniques: The Digital Sleep Surgical Services (DSSS). It is a key component of Siriraj’s development toward becoming a Smart Hospital and an International Academic Hub in the future.

Service Highlights

DSSS integrates Digital Health, AI, and Robotic Surgery to deliver precise and safe diagnosis and treatment to patients. Key services included:

• • Digital Airway Assessment: Using advanced technologies such as Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy (DISE), Cone-Beam CT (CBCT), and Submental Ultrasonography to locate airway obstruction precisely.

• Advanced Sleep Testing: With AI-assisted Scoring, Ambulatory Sleep Test, and wearable monitoring devices such as WatchPAT and Smart Rings to reduce waiting times for examination.

• Personalized Sleep Surgery: Combining AI-Driven Surgical Planning and Computer-Assisted Surgery, encompassing procedures for the nose, soft palate, tongue, and jaw. This also includes modern techniques such as radiofrequency, laser, coblator, barbed suture, Hypoglossal Nerve Stimulation (HGNS), and Transoral Robotic Surgery (TORS).
• Digital Surgical Services: Using cloud-based data storage and telemedicine to follow up on post-operative outcomes in real time.
• DNA Methylation Profiling: Studies the level above DNA, or the epigenome, as it can be used as a biomarker to accurately classify patient groups.

Multidisciplinary Network

The DSSS Network is run by various medical specialists, including Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Department of Anesthesiology, Dental Division, Department of Medicine, Department of Surgery, Department of Pediatrics, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, Siriraj Palliative Care Center, Nursing Team (Nurse Anesthetists , Practical Nurses), Occupational Therapist, Administration Officer,  and nutritional specialists, working together as a team to provide comprehensive, holistic care for OSA patients, covering diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life improvement.

DSSS aims to develop a multidisciplinary Surgical Pathway and set treatment standards for OSA patients before, during, and after surgery in a systematic manner. This effort helps propel the Sleep Surgery Center towards becoming a leading center of Asia for innovation in the treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA).
