Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, is pleased to announce the self-funded position for the “Siriraj International Fellowship Training in Clinical Pain Management (Academic Year 2025)”. This one-year fellowship follows the same curriculum as the scholarship program sponsored by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).

This self-funded fellowship provides a hands-on, one-year training opportunity for an outstanding multidisciplinary clinician in pain management, treatments, and assessments, with a focus on applications in low-resource settings. The program runs from August 1st, 2025, to July 31st, 2026, at Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center in Bangkok, Thailand. All costs, including tuition, accommodation, and travel, must be covered by the applicant.

Fellowship Eligibility Guidelines:
1. Applicant must be a physician specializing in chronic pain management (e.g., anesthesiology, rehabilitation medicine, psychiatry, neurology, etc.).
2. Applicant must have a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
3. Proficiency in English (spoken and written) at a clinical level is required.
4. Applicant must be employed in Southeast Asia or other developing countries.

* This announcement is exclusively for the “self-funding” fellowship position, with a tuition fee of 350,000.00 THB (Three Hundred Fifty Thousand Thai Baht only).

The Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, successfully organized the 4th International PoCUS 2025 Bangkok Workshop from February 13th – 15th, 2025, at Salil Riverside Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand. The event brought together renowned PoCUS specialists, including Prof. Vincent Chan, Prof. André Denault, Assoc. Prof. Oliver Panzer, Assoc. Prof. Nibras Bughrara, Dr. Lars Knudsen, and Dr. Ashokka Balakrishnan, alongside Siriraj’s expert anesthesiologists, such as Assoc. Prof. Suwimon Tangwiwat, Dr. Suthaporn Lumlertkul, Dr. Chalermchai Taesiri, Asst. Prof. Vithaya Chaithirapha, Dr. Monprawee Amprai, Asst. Prof. Aphichaya Mansomboon, and Assoc. Prof. Annop Piriyapatsom.
 
The workshop featured a comprehensive curriculum, including hands-on training in airway management, cardiac ultrasound, and FAST scan techniques; critical discussions on PoCUS applications in cardiac arrest, PDA, and the use of vasopressors and inotropes; as well as simulation labs presenting realistic pathological cases.
 
Participants gained valuable knowledge on the indications, technical skills, and clinical applications of point-of-care ultrasound. The workshop also covered the scope of diagnostic PoCUS relevant to perioperative anesthesiologists, focusing on cardiac, lung, and gastric ultrasound, deep vein thrombosis detection, and ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and vascular access.
 
With the rapid expansion of ultrasound applications across various clinical settings, PoCUS has become an essential tool in anesthesia. It is utilized at the bedside to guide procedures such as nerve blocks and vascular access or to provide diagnostic insights. The American Society of Anesthesiologists has endorsed PoCUS use among trained clinicians, reinforcing its growing role in modern anesthetic practice.

Welcome, Dr. Mohammad Nizam Mokhtar, MBChB, MMed (Anaes), an anesthesiologist from the Faculty of Medicine UKM, Malaysia, to undertaking the short training program, the 6-Month Clinical Observership Program in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia at the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Prasert Sawasdiwipachai, MD, FRCAT, starting from February 3rd – July 31st, 2025.

On December 19th, 2024, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, and Assoc. Prof. Orawan Pongraweewan, Chairwoman of the Department of Anesthesiology, presided over the opening ceremony of The 8th International Pain Forum and Cadaveric Workshop and the 35th Anniversary of the Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center under the theme “All Together Empowering Pain Care”.

The event, held from December 19th –21st, 2024, showcases a comprehensive program with leading pain management experts from Thailand and abroad. Key discussions center on advancements in acute and chronic pain management, featuring distinguished speakers such as Prof. Roger Goucke, Prof. Mark P. Jensen, Dr. Kwun-Tung NG, Dr. Nilesh Patel, Dr. Donald Tang, Dr. Tony Ng, Dr. Nattha Saisavoy, and Dr. Santi Assawapalangchai.

This forum reinforces Siriraj’s commitment to advancing multidisciplinary pain management through education, collaboration, and innovation. By enhancing the safety and efficacy of pain care, the initiative aligns with Siriraj’s mission of excellence in medical practice and education for regional healthcare improvement.

On December 13th, 2024, Associate Professor Tara Vongviriyangkoon, MD, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, presided over the certificate presentation ceremony for international physicians completing specialized anesthesia training under the Bangkok Anesthesia Regional Training Center (BARTC).
Supported by the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA) and the Royal College of Anesthesiologists of Thailand, BARTC has played a pivotal role in enhancing anesthesia education and practice across Asia, fostering a critical mass of skilled anesthesiologists in the region.

“Siriraj International Fellowship Training in Clinical Pain Management” is a hands-on one-year fellowship program available for one outstanding multidisciplinary clinician in pain management, treatments, and assessments for application in low-resource settings. The fellowship costs are covered by IASP.

– Applicant must be a physician with a specialty that manages patients with chronic pain (e.g., anesthesiology, rehabilitation medicine, psychiatry, neurology, etc.)

– Applicant must have at least 3 years of work experience.

– Applicant must be able to speak and write in English at a clinical level.

– Applicant must be a member of IASP or WFSA or apply for membership if awarded the fellowship.

– Applicant must be working in a Southeast Asian country or other developing countries.

The single successful recipient will receive waived tuition fees, accommodation, round-trip air tickets, and the stipend supported by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP).

On November 21st – 23rd, 2024, the “6th International EDRA-Approved Cadaver Workshop for Ultrasound-Guided Regional Anesthesia” and the “EDRA Board Examination” successfully took place at the Siriraj Training and Education Center for Clinical Skills (SiTEC), Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.

This prestigious event was a collaboration between the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, The European Society of Regional Anaesthesia & Pain Therapy, and B. Braun (Thailand) Ltd.

The workshop, held on November 21st –22nd, provided hands-on training and advanced knowledge, while the EDRA Board Examination on November 23rd evaluated and certified participants’ expertise. A total of 49 participants from across Asia, including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Japan, Hong Kong, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, joined this international event.

Associate Professor Pramote Euasobhon, MD, from the Division of Pain Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited as a distinguished guest speaker at the “KPS, ISPS, WSPC 2024 Co-hosting Meeting” in Seoul, Republic of Korea, between November 14th – 17th, 2024. He delivered two insightful lectures: “tDCS/rTMS/rPMS for the Treatment of Neuropathic Pain” and “Cryoablation for Chronic Pain”.

This participation not only reinforces Siriraj Hospital’s international academic presence but also brings direct benefits, including:

– Strengthened collaboration and interpersonal relationships among hospitals worldwide.

– Enhanced knowledge of non-invasive pain management procedures to advance practices at Siriraj Hospital.

The “KPS, ISPS, WSPC 2024 Co-hosting Meeting” jointly organized by the Korean Pain Society (KPS), the International Spinal Pain Society (ISPS), and the World Society of Pain Clinicians (WSPC), serves as the world’s premier academic event in pain medicine. The conference featured renowned experts presenting the latest advancements in pain medicine, encompassing basic and clinical research, novel medications, and cutting-edge techniques. Highlights also included cadaver and ultrasound workshops.

With over 1,200 participants from 25+ countries, the meeting underscored its global significance in driving innovation and collaboration in the field of pain management.
