Siriraj Faculty Abroad at The 41st ESRA Annual Congress in Czechia

Assoc. Prof. Suwimon Tangwiwat, M.D., from the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited as both instructor and session chair at “The 41st European Society of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Therapy (ESRA) Annual Congress” held from September 4th – 7th, 2024, in Prague, Czechia.

Assoc. Prof. Tangwiwat led the demonstration of “Abdominal Trunk Blocks – TAP, RSB, IH/II (Supine Position)” during the Hands-On Cadaver Workshop on “Regional Anesthesia: Upper & Lower Limb Blocks, Trunk Blocks”. She also chaired the session on “Obstetric Anesthesia”.

The ESRA Annual Congress is the most influential Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine platform for clinicians, researchers, scientists, and industry representatives from all over the world, with its high scientific standard being recognized and highly rated by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education.

Siriraj Faculty Abroad at “ESCD Congress” in Germany

Dr. Pichanee Limtanakool, MD, from the Department of Dermatology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, participated in the 16th Congress of the European Society of Contact Dermatitis (ESCD) held in Dresden, the Federal Republic of Germany, from September 4th – 7th, 2024. Dr. Limtanakool presented an abstract on the topic “Contact allergy among patients with prurigo: a 20-year retrospective study”.

The ESCD Congress featured comprehensive discussions on various aspects of the field, including advancements in basic and translational research, updates on the diagnosis and prevention of contact dermatitis, allergic and inflammatory skin conditions, current and emerging therapies, as well as presentations on recent clinical studies and their implications for patient care.

Prof. Sarut Chaisrisawadisuk, MD, FRCST, a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Consultant and Craniofacial Surgeon from the Division of Plastic Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and delivered a podium presentation on the topic “Bone and Suture Reformation in Different Cranial Regions after Cranial Vault Remodelling for Sagittal Craniosynostosis” at the international conference “The European Society of Craniofacial Surgery (ESCS) 2024” held between September 5th – 7th, 2024, in Helsinki, Finland.

Title: Bone and Suture Reformation in Different Cranial Regions after Cranial Vault Remodelling for Sagittal Craniosynostosis

Abstract: In cases of non-syndromic sagittal craniosynostosis, the back of the skull (occipital region) demonstrates the most substantial bone regrowth following surgery. This strong healing, especially in the lambdoid suture at the back of the head, unequivocally assures parents and healthcare providers of the procedure’s effectiveness and safety, allowing for the preservation of larger skull openings.

Mr. Ekkarat Wongsawat, a scientist of the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and presented a poster presentation on the topic “Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing: A Way Forward for Understanding Leptospira Diversity in Human Leptospirosis” at the “13th Conference of the International Leptospirosis Society (ILS)” and the “4th Meeting of the European Leptospirosis and other rodent-borne haemorrhagic fevers Society (ELS)”, held between September 2nd – 4th, 2024, in Brussels, Belgium.

The joint meeting of the ‘International Leptospirosis Society’ and the ‘European Leptospirosis and -other rodent-borne haemorrhagic fevers- Society’ covered recent advances in leptospirosis, focused on advances in leptospirosis research, included discussions on epidemiology, immunology, diagnostics, and One Health approaches. The platform also facilitated professional networking, promoting collaborative efforts to tackle public health challenges worldwide.

Ms. Saowaluk Silpasakorn, a medical scientist of the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and presented a poster presentation on the topic “A Two-decade Experience: Simultaneous Diagnosis Of Leptospirosis, Scrub Typhus, And Murine Typhus Using An Indirect Immunofluorescent Assay Panel In Thailand” at the “13th Conference of the International Leptospirosis Society (ILS)” and the “4th Meeting of the European Leptospirosis and other rodent-borne haemorrhagic fevers Society (ELS)”, from September 2nd – 4th, 2024, in Brussels, Belgium. Her participation fosters knowledge exchange, particularly in modern diagnostic techniques, and strengthens Siriraj Hospital’s global research network.

Assoc. Prof. Chantacha Sitticharoon, M.D., Ph.D., the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education and Vice-Chair of the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and presented a poster presentation entitled “Impact of Physiology-Based Medical Science Competition on High School Students’ Motivation Towards Medical School Admission” at the Annual Conference of the Association for Medical Education in Europe Conference (AMEE) 2024 at the Messe Congress Centre, Basel, the Swiss Confederation, held between August 24th – 28th, 2024.

The theme of AMEE 2024 is ‘Develop your educational career: connect, grow and inspire with AMEE 2024’. AMEE 2024 will focus on how best to use existing knowledge to guide practice, develop new knowledge, and consider how our work is helpful for learners, patients, and society. Prof. Suratsawadee Wangnamthip, M.D., from the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and delivered a poster presentation on the topic “Assessment of the Edmonton Symptom Assessment System Depression Item for Monitoring Depression Severity in Cancer Pain Participants” at the “IASP 2024 World Congress on Pain” in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, between August 5th – 9th, 2024.

Asst. Prof. Chatchawan Rattanabannakit, MD, an instructor of the Division of Neurology, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended The Alzheimer’s Association International Conference 2024 (AAIC2024) held between July 28th – August 1st, 2024, in Philadelphia, USA, and delivered a poster presentation titled “Audiometric Hearing Level in Individuals with Subjective Cognitive Decline, Mild Cognitive Impairment, and Mild Dementia.”

The Alzheimer’s Association International Conference is the largest international meeting dedicated to advancing dementia science and clinical practice. Assoc.. Prof. Rujipas Sirijatuphat, M.D., from the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “25th International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2024)” in Munich, Germany, from July 22nd – 26th, 2024, and presented a poster on the topic “Tuberculous pericarditis with and without HIV in adults in Thailand’s tertiary care center”. Assoc. Prof. Sirijatuphat’s presentation not only bolstered Siriraj Hospital’s standing but also promoted collaborative efforts and facilitated the exchange of knowledge. These contributions are pivotal in advancing patient care both at Siriraj Hospital and throughout Thailand.
