On October 31st, 2024, the Departments of Otorhinolaryngology, Anatomy, and Obstetrics and Gynecology, in partnership with Police General Hospital (PGH), hosted the Transoral Thyroidectomy Workshop. Held at the Thai-German Multidisciplinary Endoscopic Training Center, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, the event brought participants together to explore the latest innovations in transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy via video-assisted techniques (TOETVA). The workshop aimed to equip surgeons with cutting-edge techniques for performing scar-free, minimally invasive thyroid surgery.

Opening remarks were delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Napakorn Sangchay, Chair of the Department of Anatomy; Asst. Prof. Paiboon Sureepong, 1st Deputy Chair of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology; and course director Pol. Maj. Col. Angkoon Anuwong, M.D., setting an inspiring tone for a day of transformative learning.

The program offered a blend of clinical anatomy lectures, hands-on training, and live surgery demonstrations led by renowned experts including Dr. Thanaporn Rungruang (Siriraj Hospital, Thailand), Dr. Angkoon Anuwong (Police General Hospital, Thailand), Dr. Paveena Pithuksurachai (Siriraj Hospital, Thailand), Dr. Prachya Maneeprasopchoke (Siriraj Hospital, Thailand), Dr. Tay Hin Ngan (Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Singapore), Dr. Nor Azham Hakim Darail (Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), and Dr. Athiwut Borvornwattanavanich (Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital, Thailand).

Gathering professionals from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Singapore, the workshop promoted regional collaboration and strengthened best practices in thyroid surgery, marking a new era for transoral techniques.

Assoc. Prof. Vuthinun Achariyapota, MD, from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, participated in “The International Gynecologic Cancer Society 2024 Conference (IGCS 2024)” held in Dublin, The Republic of Ireland, from October 16th – 18th, 2024. Assoc. Prof. Achariyapota presented a research poster titled, “Impact of Obesity on Treatment and Survival Outcomes in Epithelial Ovarian Cancer: A 10-Year Retrospective Study”. This study highlights critical insights into the role of obesity in treatment efficacy and patient survival, contributing valuable knowledge to the field of gynecologic oncology.

The IGCS 2024 conference brought together experts from across the globe to discuss advancements in the treatment and management of gynecologic cancers. Topics ranged from surgical and medical oncology to pathology, radiation therapy, nursing, palliative care, and global health. The exchange of ideas at the event is expected to inspire new approaches to improving patient outcomes.

Assoc. Prof. Achariyapota’s findings and experiences from the conference are expected to contribute significantly to advancing Siriraj’s strategies in gynecologic cancer care.

On October 1st, 2024, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, held an online meeting with Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA. The discussion focused on further collaboration and strengthening the strong, ongoing partnership between the two institutions.

Doctor Wisit Chankhunaphas, M.D., a Clinical Educator from the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “28th International Conference on Prenatal Diagnosis and Therapy (ISPD 2024)” in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, held between July 7th – 10th, 2024, and presented a poster presentation on the topic, “Nomograms of Fetal Thoracic Dimensions from 17 to 37 Weeks of Gestation”. His participation in ISPD 2024 not only expanded his expertise and fostered valuable connections with leading figures in the field, driving future research initiatives and elevating care standards at Siriraj Hospital, but also provided insights and innovations that will be disseminated among colleagues, enriching the hospital’s knowledge base and reinforcing its commitment to superior patient outcomes and advancing global healthcare standards.

The 28th ISPD 2024, organized by the International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis (ISPD), featured global experts who taught courses, presented the latest research, and debated emerging approaches to prenatal screening and therapy.

Assoc. Prof. Sanitra Anuwutnavin, M.D., from the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “28th International Conference on Prenatal Diagnosis and Therapy (ISPD 2024)” in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, held between July 7th – 10th, 2024. She presented two poster presentations on the topics, “Evaluation of cardiac findings using speckle tracking in fetuses with hemoglobin Bart’s disease” and “Impact of pregnancies with isolated fetal congenital heart disease on perinatal outcomes”. Her participation will benefit Siriraj Hospital as follows:
– Gaining advanced knowledge on various topics related to prenatal diagnosis and therapy, including clinical genetics, fetal imaging, and fetal therapy.
– Inspiring new research initiatives.
– Establishing connections with international institutes.
– Receiving Travel Scholarships for her two poster presentations, recognized by the ISPD committee for both in-person and virtual meetings.
