History of Urology

Division of Urology, Siriraj Hospital was officially established in 1942, in part of Department of Surgery.  We served urological services in Siriraj Hospital which has more than 2,000 beds and now we have taken care large amount of patients, more than 10,000 visits each year. Our training program was started in 1977. At that time, our residents were trained for 3 years. In 2000, our training program was extended from 3 years to 4-years. Nowadays, we have trained more than 100 urologists serving Thailand and neighborhood countries.

On December 18th, 2018, Prof. Thawatchai Akaraviputh, Deputy Dean for International Relations, along with Assoc.Prof. Chanean Ruansetakit, Chairman of Department of Surgery, Dr. Vitoon Chinswangwatanakul, Chairman of Siriraj Cancer Center, and Assoc. Prof. Asada Methasate, Head of Minimal Invasive Surgery Division, welcomed Clinical Assoc. Prof. Lars Tue Sorensen from University of Copenhagen, Denmark, to visit Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital and have a discussion on the potential collaboration multicenter RCT-protocol and surgeon exchange program between UoC and Siriraj.

Four North Korea doctors from World Health Organization (WHO) attended the training program in “Minimally Invasive Surgery and Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary and Transplantation Surgery” at General Surgery ,Department of Surgery under supervisor Dr. Vitoon Chinswangwatanakul, Head of Division of General Surgery from  October 1,2018 – November 23, 2018 ( 2 Months).

Loy krathong Festival 2018 at Department of Surgery, Siriraj Hospital

The event of  Loy krathong  festival  on November 22, 2018 at Department of Surgery ,Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.

Loy Krathong Festival is celebrated every year in Thailand in all major cities following the Thai tradition. The festival is often celebrated at the end of the rainy season typically in the month of November the 12th lunar month according to the Thai traditional calendar. The dates change every year and this year’s Loy Krathong Festival falls on the 22nd of November.

The department of Surgery invited Exchange student joint the event with beautiful Thai traditional customs, Ms. Johanna Thiele, Ms. Burcu Yeni, Mr. Izak  Jurcic, Mr. Alexander Betz and Dr. Catharina  Strauss under  the supervisor of Associate Professor Chongdee  Aojanepong  and Clinical Professor Emeritus Dr.Somsak  Masomboon.

 

 

 

Four Bangladeshi Doctors Attend the Observership Program at Siriraj

Four Bangladeshi doctors from Medical Education and Health Manpower Development, the Government of Bangladesh attend “Clinical Observership in Thoracic Surgery and Thoracic Anesthesia” at Division of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery, and Department of Anesthesiology,  Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Punnarerk Thongcharoen and his team including the thoracic anesthesiologist from Department of Anesthesiology during November 26 – 30, 2018.

Siriraj’s Surgery and Dermatology attended the “PRS Korea 2018: Moment of Innovation, the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies”

Prof. Apirag Chuangsuwanich from Department of Surgery and Prof. Rungsima Wanitphakdeedecha from Department of Dermatology delivered a talk, respectively, on “Customised Upper Blepharoplasty”  and “The Advantage of Picosecond 755nm laser in Asian patients” at PRS Korea 2018: Moment of Innovation, the International Confederation of Plastic Surgery Societies at Grand Intercontinental Seoul Parnas, South Korea during November 9th – 11th, 2018.
