Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Chairman of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with Assoc. Prof. Bavornrit Chuckpaiwong, Chief of Division of Foot and Ankle Surgery, and Asst. Prof. Theerawoot Tharmviboonsri, delivered a certificate of completion to Dr. Daman Kumar Jha, an orthopedic surgeon from Nepal Mediciti Hospital, Nepal, who successfully completed “Siriraj International Fellowship Training Program in Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery” at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery during January 1st – December 31st, 2021.

Siriraj Hospital uses the 5th Generation Network Technology (5G), Cloud, Artificial Intelligence (A.I.), and Digital Disruption to bring more efficient and convenient experience to patients and be a role model for other hospitals in Thailand to develop and transform into smart hospitals.

On December 16th, 2021, General Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, presided over the jointly launched project “Siriraj World Class 5G Smart Hospital” at Rachapanaddasirindhorn Auditorium, Siriraj Hospital. This event was well-attended by distinguished guests such as Mr. Chaiwut Thanakmanusorn, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Dr. Kiattipoom Wongrachit, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Col. Dr. Natee Sukonrat, Vice Chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), H.E. Mr. Han Zhiqiang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. Abel Deng, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., Assoc. Prof. Visit Vamvanij, Director of Siriraj Hospital, Assoc. Prof. Cherdchai Nopmaneejumruslers, Vice Director of Siriraj Hospital, including the executive members of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.

The Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. have established long-term cooperation in 5G technology development and application by establishing a Joint Innovation Lab to incubate innovative 5G applications. Currently, Siriraj Hospital has started piloting 5G portable medical boxes, 5G unmanned vehicles, 5G medical carts, and 5G smart hospital beds. It is expected that 30 5G medical applications will be incubated and promoted in 2022!

In addition, The project “Siriraj World Class 5G Smart Hospital” has also established 9 innovative subprojects as shown in the list below, this will remark Siriraj Hospital as the first and largest 5G smart hospital in Thailand and the ASEAN region!

Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University is pleased to announce the scholarship program “Siriraj International Fellowship Training in Clinical Pain Management (Academic Year 2022) jointly sponsored by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and the World Federation of Societies for Anaesthesiologists (WFSA).

“Siriraj International Fellowship Training in Clinical Pain Management” is a hands-on one-year fellowship program available for two outstanding multidisciplinary clinicians in pain management, treatments, and assessments for application in low-resource countries. The program will be starting on August 1st, 2022 – July 31st, 2023, at Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. The successful candidates will receive waived tuition fees, accommodation, round-trip air tickets, and the stipend supported by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and World Federations of Anesthesiologists (WFSA).

On December 9th, 2021, Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with Prof. Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit, Director of Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SiCRES), attended the Virtual Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signing Ceremony between Siriraj Institute of Clinical Research (SICRES) and National Center for Global Health and Medicine (NCGM), Japan, to promote the Multi-Regional Clinical Trial (MRCT) and launched ARO Alliance for ASEAN & East Asia (ARISE).

NCGM has been collaborating with Asian research institutions. The project “ARISE” has been established to promote the MRCT in the region. A kick-off conference is held to establish its foundation and launch the activities.

The 3rd Teleconference Research and Innovation Advisory Committee in 2021, is virtually held as two-day meeting for different time zones includes November 12, 2021 for the committee members from the US, Australia and South Korea and November 19,2021 for the members in Europe, Israel and Bangkok. On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Banchong Mahaisavariya M.D., President of Mahidol University and Prof. Dr. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, along with executive members and Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management (SiCORE-M) welcomed the distinguished Research and Innovation Advisory Committee members.

On November 19, 2021, the advisory board received the brief updates from Deputy Dean for Research, SiCORE-M and the representatives of each SiCOREs. During the meeting, the board discussed and provided recommendations on the strategic research management and supporting mechanisms at Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital. In the interactive session, there was discussion about the research progress from Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Allergy and Immunology (SiCORE-Allergy), Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Dengue and Emerging Pathogens (SiCORE-Dengue), Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Precision Medicine and Systems Pharmacology (SiCORE-PM&SP) and Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Cardiovascular Disease (SiCORE-Cardiovascular Disease).

This two-day meeting provided us with an invaluable opportunity that all those that participated in this meeting found it extremely beneficial and greatly welcomed the opportunity to exchange perspectives and from the experience of advisory committee members. Without doubt, the insightful comments and recommendations that we received from this meeting will be of great benefit in research transformation to our Faculty and eventually magnify a broader outcome in aspects of Thailand healthcare system in the future.

The China-AUN Scholarship is a scholarship programme under the ASEAN-China Academic Cooperation and Exchange Programme in cooperation with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) with the financial support of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. Initiated in 2008, this programme offers 30 full scholarships annually to citizens from ASEAN member countries to pursue their Master’s and Doctoral degrees in China.

Lecturer Dr. Tongporn Wannatoop, a Clinical Instructor of the Division of Trauma Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, delivered a special lecture on the topic “EVTM Education in Thailand” at the “7th EndoVascular Resuscitation and Trauma Management (EVTM) Symposium” in Örebro, Sweden, between December 3rd – 5th, 2021, to demonstrate how Siriraj can create the integrated program for surgical training with advance technology.
