From January 17th – 21st, 2025, Dr. Suphalerk Lohasammakul, MD, an instructor in the Department of Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, presented an original paper titled “An Updated Classification of DIEA Branching and Perforator Patterns: Important Considerations in Robotic-Assisted DIEP (RoboDIEP) Flaps” at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery 2025 (ASRM 2025) in Hawaii, USA. The ASRM 2025 aims to advance excellence in microsurgery and complex reconstruction, providing a platform for teaching, research, and open discussion of reconstructive microsurgical methods and principles in an inclusive environment promoting equity and diversity among its members.

 

On November 27th, 2024, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, presented the Sood Sangvichian Award to Prof. Robert W. Mann, PhD, DABFA, FAAFS, FCPP, Siriraj International Visiting Scholars for acknowledging his exceptional contributions to the field of forensic anthropology at Adityadhornkitikhun Conference Hall.

This prestigious award, named in honor of the late Prof. Sood Sangvichian, former Dean and Chairman of the Department of Anatomy, recognizes outstanding contributions to medical education, research, and the advancement of the Thai medical community.

Following the award presentation, Professor Mann delivered an honorary lecture titled “The Human Skeleton in Forensic Anthropology and Medicine”, engaging the audience with his extensive expertise in the intersection of forensic science and medical practice. His insights into the human skeleton’s role in forensic investigations and medical contexts were invaluable, providing attendees with an in-depth understanding of this crucial area in forensic anthropology.

The Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, is delighted to announce that Professor Robert W. Mann, PhD, DABFA, FAAFS, FCPP, has been honored with the prestigious “2024 Sood Sangvichian Award”.

The Sood Sangvichian Award honors the legacy of Professor Sood Sangvichian, MD, a distinguished professor emeritus, former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, and former Chairman of the Department of Anatomy. The award recognizes his immense contributions to medical education, research, and the Thai medical community.

As part of the award ceremony, Professor Robert W. Mann, an internationally certified expert in forensic anthropology, will deliver a special honorary lecture.

The Division of Rhinology and Allergy, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, in collaboration with the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, is organizing a hands-on training workshop “The 27th Siriraj International Rhinology and Allergy Course” from November 18th – 19th, 2024, at the Siriraj Medical Simulation Center (SiTEC), Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital. The workshop will feature esteemed international faculty members, including Prof. Alkis Psaltis, Prof. Luo Zhang, and Prof. Chengshuo Wang.

On October 31st, 2024, the Departments of Otorhinolaryngology, Anatomy, and Obstetrics and Gynecology, in partnership with Police General Hospital (PGH), hosted the Transoral Thyroidectomy Workshop. Held at the Thai-German Multidisciplinary Endoscopic Training Center, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, the event brought participants together to explore the latest innovations in transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy via video-assisted techniques (TOETVA). The workshop aimed to equip surgeons with cutting-edge techniques for performing scar-free, minimally invasive thyroid surgery.

Opening remarks were delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Napakorn Sangchay, Chair of the Department of Anatomy; Asst. Prof. Paiboon Sureepong, 1st Deputy Chair of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology; and course director Pol. Maj. Col. Angkoon Anuwong, M.D., setting an inspiring tone for a day of transformative learning.

The program offered a blend of clinical anatomy lectures, hands-on training, and live surgery demonstrations led by renowned experts including Dr. Thanaporn Rungruang (Siriraj Hospital, Thailand), Dr. Angkoon Anuwong (Police General Hospital, Thailand), Dr. Paveena Pithuksurachai (Siriraj Hospital, Thailand), Dr. Prachya Maneeprasopchoke (Siriraj Hospital, Thailand), Dr. Tay Hin Ngan (Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, Singapore), Dr. Nor Azham Hakim Darail (Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia), and Dr. Athiwut Borvornwattanavanich (Charoenkrung Pracharak Hospital, Thailand).

Gathering professionals from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Singapore, the workshop promoted regional collaboration and strengthened best practices in thyroid surgery, marking a new era for transoral techniques.

Prof. Chainarong Phalanusitthepha welcomed distinguished guests: Mr. Patrick Wing Leung WONG, Technical Manager and Mr. Siu Pang HO, Senior Technical Officer, from School of Biomedical of Sciences, L.K.S. Faculty of Medicine, the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong on visit and discussion at SiMSET, SiTEC and Anatomy Department, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.

On March 21st – 24th, 2024, Lecturer Woratee Dacharux, M.D., from the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was honored to be invited as a lecturer at the “Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Asian Meeting 2024” held in Okinawa, Japan, to deliver a lecture on the topic “Current Status of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound in Thailand”.

Lecturer Dacharux aimed to enhance educational programs and services at Siriraj Hospital by utilizing data gathered from his lecture’s survey. Additionally, he explored potential collaborations, fostering partnerships for future advancements in research, education, and clinical practice. Dr. Dacharux’s participation underscores Siriraj Hospital’s commitment to excellence and its active engagement in international academic discourse.

Assoc. Prof. Nantthasorn Zinboonyahgoon, M.D., the Pain Medicine Division Chief, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited to attend the 18th World Congress of Anesthesiologists (WCA2024) in Singapore between March 3rd – 7th, 2024 and served as a poster presentation moderator; a session Chair: Pain Management in Special Environments; and delivered a special lecture on the topic “Cannabinoids for Acute Pain”.

The WCA2024 is the only international congress, with representation from more than 130 countries, that offers a comprehensive program that addresses anaesthesiology globally. Additionally, WCA provides training and education opportunities that drive conversations, deepen collaboration, and accelerate the promotion of science, networking, and knowledge sharing across the spectrum of anaesthesiology.

Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, actively engaged in the instruction of gross anatomy as part of the Early Clinical Exposure (ECE) Activities tailored for preclinical medical students alongside instructors from the Department of Anatomy.

Early Clinical Exposure (ECE) represents an innovative and progressive teaching-learning approach purposefully designed to foster early patient interaction for medical students, commencing as early as their inaugural year in medical school. This initiative aims to imbue future healthcare practitioners with invaluable experiences, nurturing their empathetic and clinical skills right from the onset of their medical education.
