Congratulations to Mahidol University for being ranked Thailand’s No.1 by the CWTS Leiden Ranking 2022 after the 2022 edition of the Leiden Ranking released on June 22nd, 2022!

The CWTS Leiden Ranking is an online platform that offers important insights into the scientific performance of over 1,300 major universities worldwide produced by the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) at Leiden University in the Netherlands. CWTS is a research center in the field of science and technology studies. Unlike other well-known university rankings, the Leiden Ranking, therefore, presents a variety of indicators, enabling the performance of universities to be explored from a diversity of perspectives. The exclusive focus on the scientific performance of universities, the based entirely on bibliographic data on scientific publications, also distinguishes the Leiden Ranking from other university rankings; it relies on a sophisticated approach to data collection and provides a set of advanced bibliometric indicators!

On June 23rd, 2022, Prof Prasit Watanapa, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with Assoc. Prof. Visit Vamvanij, Director of Siriraj Hospital, Prof. Prasert Auewarakul, Deputy Dean of Research, Prof. Thananya Boonyasirinant, Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for International Relations, and Assoc. Prof. Sith Sathornsumethee, the Director of Siriraj Center of Research Excellence Management Unit (SiCORE-M), welcome the distinguished delegates from the Rockefeller Foundation led by Ms. Elizabeth Yee, the Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff on the visit at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and also discussed on the future collaboration between Siriraj and Rockefeller.

 

Asst. Prof. Warissara Rongthong of the Division of Radiation Oncology, Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and delivered a poster presentation on the topic “The comparison of dosimetric parameters for predicting radiation-induced cataract in pediatric patients” at the 20th International Symposium on Pediatric Neuro-Oncology (ISPNO 2022) in Hamburg, Germany, from June 12th – 15th, 2022.

ISPNO is the largest international scientific meeting of multidisciplinary professionals in research, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of children and adolescents with tumors of the Central Nervous System. The event was co-hosted by the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) Heidelberg.

Asst. Prof. Sirinart Sirinvaravong of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended an international conference, The Endocrine Society’s Annual Meeting (ENDO 2022), between June 11th – 14th, 2022, in Atlanta, USA, and delivered a Rapid Fire Presentation (a short 5-minute presentation with a small group of audiences) on the topic “Comparative Study of Hertel Exophthalmometer and Luedde Exophthalmometer Versus Computed Tomography for Measurement of Proptosis in Normal Subjects.”

Asst. Prof. Sirinvaravong’s research is about finding the reliability and accuracy of different types of exophthalmometers for the measurement of proptosis in normal subjects at the most prominent international endocrine conference. Her project has been conducted at Siriraj Hospital, and the result could be applicable to the care of general patients. Her presentation would bring a reputation to Siriraj Hospital as a distinguished academic institution.

Welcome, Dr. Lorenzo Salvatore from Italy to attend “Siriraj’s International Short training Program in Head and Neck Surgery” starting from June 13th, 2022 – February 28th, 2023, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Phawin Keskool, Chairman of Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Asst. Prof. Paiboon Sureepong, Head of Laryngology, Head & Neck Surgery Division, and Asst. Prof. Chanticha Chotigavanich.

On behalf of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center, Department of Anesthesiology, has to announce the replacement of a successful candidate who will attend a hands-on one-year fellowship program, “Siriraj International Fellowship Training in Clinical Pain Management (Academic Year 2022)” sponsored by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and the World Federation of Societies for Anaesthesiologists (WFSA). The name of the replacement candidate is shown as follows:

Dr. Mahammad Zunaid, M.D., from the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, will replace Dr. Aung Chan Thu, M.D., from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Siriraj International Fellowship Training in Clinical Pain Management 2022 will start on August 1st, 2022, and finish on July 31st, 2023.

Siriraj Organ Transplant Center has organized an event “Roi Duang Jai” to celebrate the accomplishment of Siriraj’s 100 successful heart transplants! On this occasion, there were discussions and knowledge exchanges about heart transplantation plus the achievement of the combined heart-liver-kidney transplantation in one patient from the heart-surgeon specialists such as Prof. Emeritus Prinya Sakiyalak, Prof. Emeritus Vichian Thongtang, Assoc. Prof Pranya Sakiyalak, Dr. Srisakul Chirakarnjanakorn, Asst. Prof. Satit Janwanishstaporn, and Assoc. Prof. Nitipatana Chierakul.

In addition, Mr. Kiatichai Monsereenusorn, the Vice President of the Volunteer Pilot Club, also shared his experience of hid flying with a team of doctors and nurses for more than 30 surgeries across Thailand, which attracted many participants to listen to this discussion.
