Osaka University is pleased to announce that the Center for Global Initiatives, Osaka University, is organizing a video contest in celebration of Osaka University’s 90thanniversary and the 100th anniversary of Osaka University of Foreign Studies this year and invite the participation of students from its partner universities around the world.

The student video contest, “3 Minutes of Inspiration for Sustainable Development”, aims to engage students in international dialogues about their role in making a difference in their communities, societies, and the world by fostering innovative and creative thinking as well as digital skills.

Video submissions, by individuals or groups, are accepted until April 30th, 2021. The best videos will be featured in an online Awards Ceremony and Student Forum on June 25th, 2021.

Bernd Rode Award is granted to outstanding scientific and higher education collaborations between European and South-East-Asian universities in the framework of ASEA-UNINET. It is associated with financial support up to a maximum of € 5.000 to enhance and extend the research possibilities in the context of projects backed by ASEA-UNINET (e.g. travel expenses, research stay) and is given in three different categories as follows:
1. Junior (Individual contributions conducted within the framework of ASEA-UNINET, by applicants up to 5 years after completion of their Ph.D. studies)
2 . Senior (Individual contributions, including all publications and projects carried out in the framework of ASEA-UNINET, by applicants over a period of 5 years after completion of their Ph.D. studies)
3. Project-based collaborative research conducted in the framework of ASEA-UNINET

Basic requirements for an application:

  • The applicant has participated in a finished or still ongoing ASEA-UNINET research project or research stay in the past 5 years.
  • This project was conducted in cooperation between at least one Austrian ASEA-UNINET member university and · at least one ASEA-UNINET member university from South-East-Asia and has been at least partially funded by ASEA-UNINET.
  • Furthermore, the project has already produced results that can be presented (e.g. joint publication).
  • The funds received from the Bernd Rode Award can be exclusively reinvested in future ASEA-UNINET research projects and collaborations.

Congratulations! Prof. Suneerat Kongsayreepong of the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, has been appointed by the Council of the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA) to serve as a member of the Intensive and Critical Care Medicine Committee of the WFSA.

On February 22nd, 2021, Prof. Prasit Watanapa, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited as a guest speaker on the topic “5G+Cloud Empowering Thailand Smart Hospital” at a virtual conference “Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2021 (MWC Shanghai 2021)”. The United States Government, in partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and Underwriters Laboratories, aims to strengthen ASEAN science and technology capacity and gender equality through an annual Underwriters Laboratories-ASEAN-U.S. Science Prize for Women (“Prize”). The 2021 Prize will provide promising, ASEAN-national, Mid-career and Senior female scientists with recognition awards from ASEAN and the United States government and Underwriters Laboratories for their academic and professional achievements.

The 2021 Prize will emphasize the role of female scientists who have used their work to improve the society in sustainable ways and have acted as role models for other women learning, working in and pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). This year, the Prize focuses on the theme of Clean Water and Clean Air.

Along with recognition for their achievements, the winner of each category is eligible to receive cash awards of $15,000 for the Senior Scientist and $10,000 for the Mid-career Scientist.

Asst.Prof. Achiraya Teyateeti of Division of Radiation Oncology, Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, has completed her role as a ‘Visiting Scholar/Research Fellow’ at the Mayo Clinic, Minnesota, and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, between February 11th, 2019 – February 6th, 2021.

After her completion, Asst.Prof. Achiraya is determined to improve the stereotactic radiosurgery/stereotactic body radiotherapy service and conduct research in central nervous system tumor and prostate cancer!
