On January 28, 2025, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, MD, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, together with Ms. Saima Wazed, Regional Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) South-East Asia, along with Prof. Keerati Charoencholvanich, MD, Chairman of Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, presided over the signing ceremony of the “Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Trauma, Injury, and Fall Prevention” between WHO and Siriraj.

This MOU aims to strengthen collaboration on trauma, injury, and fall prevention across the WHO South-East Asia Region to address the growing health, social, and economic challenges posed by these issues. The partnership provides a unique opportunity to leverage Siriraj’s expertise in building capacity, strengthening evidence-based practices, and fostering deeper collaboration throughout the Region.

Mr. Korawit Opassathian, PhD, a researcher from the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, represented Siriraj at the 2nd Thailand Bioinformatics Research Network (TBRN) International Conference held in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Mr. Opassathian delivered an oral presentation titled “A Study of Genomic Complexity Underlying Multidrug Resistance in Candida auris Strains in Thailand”. The conference aimed to foster collaboration among bioinformaticians in Thailand and discussed future applications of AI and LLM in medical research.

Ms. Amphun Chaiboonchoe, PhD, a Research Scientist from the Siriraj Center of Research Excellence in Precision Medicine and Systems Pharmacology (SiCORE-PM&SP), participated in the 2nd Thailand Bioinformatics Research Network (TBRN) International Conference held in Bangkok, Thailand, from January 22nd to 24th, 2025. Ms. Chaiboonchoe presented a poster titled “Exploring Tumor Microenvironment-Dependent Heterogeneity in Colorectal Cancer through Spatial Transcriptomics and Gene Expression Platforms.”

The TBRN conference served as a platform to explore the latest advancements in bioinformatics methodologies, significantly enriching cancer research efforts at Siriraj Hospital. It fostered collaborations with leading institutions, bolstering clinical translational research and capacity building. Moreover, the event underscored the critical role of integrating bioinformatics into clinical workflows, emphasizing potential funding opportunities for translational research driven by bioinformatics.

Dr.CM.D. Teerawoot Chansiricharoengul, Dr.ATM. Kodchakorn Yamvattana, Dr.ATM. Pruthiporn Rahurak, and the staff of the Family and Alternative Medicine Department at the Golden Jubilee Medical Center warmly welcomed six nursing students from the PAPRSB Institute of Health Sciences, Universiti of Brunei Darussalam, on a site visit and study program at the Applied Thai Traditional Medicine Clinic and Chinese Medicine Clinic, Family and Alternative Medicine Department, Golden Jubilee Medical Center, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, on January 24th, 2025.

On January 20th, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communications and International Relations welcomed Aron Grubesic, Vorapod Tarasupakorn, and Asst. Prof. Tomislav Cengic on visit discussions about fostering academic collaboration between Siriraj Hospital and their respective institutions, aiming to enhance partnerships in education and research.

Dr. Sriwipa Kaewsrinual, a second-year fellow in Maternal-Fetal Medicine from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, is currently participating in the “Observership Program in Fetal Medicine” at the National Center of Child Health and Development (NCCHD) in Setagaya, Tokyo, Japan. This program is scheduled from January 6th – 31st, 2025.

From January 17th – 21st, 2025, Dr. Suphalerk Lohasammakul, MD, an instructor in the Department of Anatomy at the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, presented an original paper titled “An Updated Classification of DIEA Branching and Perforator Patterns: Important Considerations in Robotic-Assisted DIEP (RoboDIEP) Flaps” at the Annual Meeting of the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery 2025 (ASRM 2025) in Hawaii, USA. The ASRM 2025 aims to advance excellence in microsurgery and complex reconstruction, providing a platform for teaching, research, and open discussion of reconstructive microsurgical methods and principles in an inclusive environment promoting equity and diversity among its members.
