September 30th, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, M.D., Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations, and Adj. Prof. Sanjai Sangvichien, M.D., D.Sc., warmly welcome Ms. Judith Tanini, Manager of Administration of the President’s Office, the Rockefeller Foundation, and Mr. Atiroot Kulruan, Administrative/Front Desk Assistant of the Rockefeller Foundation Asia, on their site visit at the Siriraj Archives, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. The Siriraj Archives collects and preserves documents, books, memorabilia, photographs, and media related to the history of medicine and the history of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital.

On September 4th, 2024, the SiCORE-M team hosted the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of SiCORE-MSB for the third teleconference of the year, focusing on the first-year progress in Phase 1. Associate Professor Prawej Mahawithitwong, Deputy Head of the Center of Research Excellence (SiCORE), opened the meeting and extended a warm welcome to Emeritus Professor Jeremy Nicholson, Pro Vice Chancellor of Health Sciences and Executive Director of the Australian National Phenome Centre (ANPC) at Murdoch University. Professor Nicholson provided invaluable guidance on the center’s progress.

Associate Professor Dr. Sakda Khoomrung, Director of SiCORE-MSB, together with Assistant Professor Sukit Raksasuk, Dr. Kwanjeera Wanichthanarak, and Dr. Narumol Jariyasopit, presented the updates on their metabolomics research focused on kidney disease diagnosis. The team discussed the importance of refining a long-term research plan and emphasized the need to identify more clinically relevant biomarkers. Limitations in current instrumentation were highlighted, alongside discussions of potential future collaborations to enhance the research outcomes.


On September 1st and 2nd, 2024, SiCORE-M and SiCORE-Allergy jointly hosted the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) ‘s onsite meeting at the Siriraj Medical Research Building (SiMR), Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital. The event began with a guided laboratory visit and a comprehensive discussion of the current Allergy projects.

The meeting was graced by the presence of Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, who extended a warm welcome to the visiting renowned experts, Prof. Rudolf Valenta from the Medical University of Vienna and Prof. Stephen Durham from Imperial College London. Their guidance and special lectures added immense value to the discussions.


Assoc. Prof. Pongsakorn Tantilipikorn, Director of SiCORE-Allergy, along with Assoc. Prof. Nitaya Indrawattana, Dr. Dichapong Kanjanawasee, and Dr. Nathachit Limjunyawong presented the progress and challenges in developing intranasal allergen preparations. The discussions focused on the strategic transition from cockroach to house dust mite intranasal immunotherapy based on unmet needs and initial research findings. As the team prepares for the first human trials under Thai FDA product registration, the SAB’s full approval for the shift was a significant validation, noting the significant prevalence and impact of house dust mite allergies in Thailand. Additionally, the meeting highlighted the molecular analysis of cockroach allergens and their cross-reactivity with house dust mites, marking important directions for future research.





Assoc. Prof. Nantthasorn Zinboonyahgoon, M.D., from the Siriraj Pain Clinic, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, has been invited to join the 2026 Scientific Program Committee (SPC) for the IASP World Congress on Pain 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. As a member of the SPC, Assoc. Prof. Zinboonyahgoon will provide continuous feedback throughout the planning cycle, assist in reviewing submitted poster abstracts, and help shape the selection process for special lectures at the Congress.
The International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) World Congress on Pain is the largest global gathering of pain professionals, bringing together scientists, clinicians, and healthcare providers from diverse pain-related fields. The 2026 event will feature hundreds of international speakers and offer comprehensive sessions on the latest research and treatments for pain.

From September 26th – 28th, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Thammawat Parakonthun, MD (left), a lecturer from the Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit, Division of General Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and presented an oral presentation (original paper) on the topic “Health-Related Quality of Life after Gastrectomy: The Role of ERAS Protocol Compliance” at the 11th Annual Congress of the Korea International Gastric Cancer Week (KINGCA WEEK 2024) hosted by the Korean Gastric Cancer Association (KGCA) in Seoul, Korea. The KGCA is one of the world’s leading associations in the field of gastric cancer, which continuously has published SCIE-indexed journal, the Journal of Gastric Cancer.

From September 19th-23rd, 2024, Asst. Prof. Kasem Kulkeaw, from the Department of Parasitology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited to speak at the International Congress for Tropical Medicine and Malaria (ICTMM) 2024 in Malaysia. His presentation, titled From Lab to Diagnosis and Treatment: Lessons Learned from the Studies of Brain-Infecting Amoeba and Plasmodium falciparum, highlighted key insights from his research, fostering both national and international research collaborations.
ICTMM is one of the largest global congresses in tropical medicine, drawing thousands of researchers, experts, policymakers, and key stakeholders from around the world. The event covers a wide range of topics, including malaria, infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, neglected tropical diseases, drug resistance, parasitology, zoonoses, travel medicine, and other pressing public health issues.

From September 19th – 23rd, 2024, Associate Professor Summon Chomchai, MD, from the Division of Toxicology, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, participated in the “North American Congress of Clinical Toxicology (NACCT) Annual Meeting 2024” in Denver, Colorado, USA. During the event, Assoc. Prof. Chomchai presented his research abstract titled “Acetaminophen Aminotransferase Multiplication Product as a Predictor of Acetaminophen Concentration Above the 150-Treatment Line in the Rumack-Matthew Nomogram”.
Assoc. Prof. Chomchai’s efforts aim to position Siriraj Hospital as a globally recognized hub for research on paracetamol poisoning. This elevated reputation in clinical toxicology can foster international collaborations, secure research funding, and promote knowledge exchange—advancing patient care and academic excellence.

Asst. Prof. Jidapa Wongcharoenwatana, M.D., Lecturer from the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited to attend the “6th World Congress of ASAMI-BR and ILLRS Societies” held from September 17th – 22nd, 2024, in Beijing, China.
At the conference, Asst. Prof. Wongcharoenwatana contributed in the following capacities:
– Invited speaker on the topic “Bone Grafting and Induced Membrane Technique”
– Moderator for the symposium on “Strategy for Managing Segmental Bone Defects”
– Moderator for the “Rehabilitation and Orthotics Oral Presentation”
Upon returning, Siriraj Hospital stands to benefit greatly from the advanced knowledge and innovative techniques in limb lengthening and complex deformity correction that Asst. Prof. Wongcharoenwatana will introduce. By integrating cutting-edge research and best practices, we aim to improve surgical outcomes and post-operative care, including the use of magnetic lengthening intramedullary nails for patients with leg length discrepancies.
Furthermore, networking with leading experts such as Prof. Paley opens doors for collaborative research, training programs, and workshops, fostering continuous learning and innovation. This will enhance Siriraj’s role as a regional leader in orthopedic care and strengthen our capacity to manage complex cases effectively.
