Assoc. Prof. Pornpan Koomanachai of the Division of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine, Department of Medicine, attended a joint meeting of the International Immunocompromised Host Society (ICHS) 22nd Biennial Symposium and the Swiss Society of Allergy and Immunology (SSAI) Annual Conference 2022 between September 8th – 11th, 2022, in Basel, Switzerland, and delivered a poster presentation on the topic “BCG (Bacillus Calmette-Guerin) Septicemia in Bladder Cancer Patient Receiving Intravesical BCG; Cancer Therapy Caused Uncommon Infection.”

During September 8th – 10th, 2022, Lecturer Dr. Taniga Kiatchai of the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the international conference “The 50th Society for Neuroscience in Anesthesiology and Critical Care (SNACC) Annual Meeting” in the USA, and delivered a poster presentation on the topic “Effect of First Anesthesia Exposure on Short-Term Neurocognitive Function in Children between Ages 1-36 Months: a Case-Control Pilot Study.” Her poster presentation will be presented to a broader group audience, and the abstract will be published as a conference abstract in the Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology!

The 50th SNACC Annual Meeting delivers a program designed to meet and update the educational needs and practice gaps of neuroanesthesiologists, neurocritical care specialists, and all perioperative neuroscience practitioners who engage in providing care to neurologically impaired patients/patients at risk of neurologic injury during the perioperative period, as well as neuroscientists engaged in both clinical and basic perioperative neuroscience research. The workshops, symposia, lectures, and abstract presentations will specifically address new clinical findings essential to improving the care of patients, as well as advancing both basic and clinical research in perioperative neuroscience.

During September 7th – 9th, 2022, Mr. Thaweesak Chieochansin, Ph.D., a senior researcher from the Division of Molecular Medicine, Department of Research, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended an international conference “European School of Hematology’s 6th Translational Research Conference-Multiple Myeloma” in France and delivered a research poster presentation on the topic “Molecular Dynamics Simulation Reveals the Binding Ability of Predicted New York Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma-1 (NY-ESO-1) Peptide Loaded on HLA-A*02:01 for Potential Used as Cancer Vaccine to Treat Multiple Myeloma.”

This conference is intended to emphasize cutting-edge basic and clinical research and future treatment prospects for multiple myeloma. Intentionally, ample time is allocated for in-depth scientific discussion and interaction. The conference allowed for informal scientific exchange with the world’s foremost experts in treating multiple myeloma. The most recent treatment guidelines and inside information about the treatment have been provided in depth by experts who have conducted numerous clinical studies and collected real-world data. Moreover, the conference allowed participants and experts to establish connections. It will be of great benefit not only to basic research but also to the clinical care of Siriraj Hospital’s multiple myeloma patients.

Prof. Dr. Uraiwan Panich, a Chairwoman of the Department of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended an annual meeting of the Society of Free Radical Research – Europe & Biannual Meeting of the Plant Oxygen Group Redox Biology Congress 2022 – Oxidative stress, redox biology and antioxidants from plants to humans between August 22nd – 26th, 2022, in Ghent, Belgium, and delivered a poster presentation on the topic “Keratinocyte-derived paracrine factors modulates UVB-induced stress response of melanocytes .”

Siriraj Stereotactic Radiosurgery Scientific Conference

The Division of Radiation Oncology, Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, has organized the international conference, “Siriraj Stereotactic Radiosurgery Scientific Conference” between August 25th – 26th, 2022. This conference is a collaborative, multi-disciplinary conference, bringing together world-class healthcare professionals such as Prof. Iris C. Gibbs from Stanford University, USA, and Asst. Prof. Joost Nuyttens from Erasmus Medical Center, the Netherland, including the faculty members of the Division of Radiation Oncology, Department of Radiology, who were interested in the latest discoveries, clinical research, and technological advancements of stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic body radiation therapy, and precision therapies presented in this conference.

Assoc. Prof. Archwin Tanphaichitr from the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, was invited to be Chairperson/Speaker at the 8th Asia Pacific Pediatric Otolaryngology Conference (APOG2022) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam during August 5th – 6th, 2022. He was a chairman in the session on Immunotherapy, Pediatric ENT Infectious Disease, and Laryngology, delivered a special talk on the topic “Management of Complete Tracheal Rings” and also attended the Pre-Congress Course: “Advanced Airway Surgery” on August 5th, 2022.

Asst. Prof. Warissara Rongthong of the Division of Radiation Oncology, Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and delivered a poster presentation on the topic “The comparison of dosimetric parameters for predicting radiation-induced cataract in pediatric patients” at the 20th International Symposium on Pediatric Neuro-Oncology (ISPNO 2022) in Hamburg, Germany, from June 12th – 15th, 2022.

ISPNO is the largest international scientific meeting of multidisciplinary professionals in research, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of children and adolescents with tumors of the Central Nervous System. The event was co-hosted by the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf and the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) Heidelberg.

Asst. Prof. Sirinart Sirinvaravong of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended an international conference, The Endocrine Society’s Annual Meeting (ENDO 2022), between June 11th – 14th, 2022, in Atlanta, USA, and delivered a Rapid Fire Presentation (a short 5-minute presentation with a small group of audiences) on the topic “Comparative Study of Hertel Exophthalmometer and Luedde Exophthalmometer Versus Computed Tomography for Measurement of Proptosis in Normal Subjects.”

Asst. Prof. Sirinvaravong’s research is about finding the reliability and accuracy of different types of exophthalmometers for the measurement of proptosis in normal subjects at the most prominent international endocrine conference. Her project has been conducted at Siriraj Hospital, and the result could be applicable to the care of general patients. Her presentation would bring a reputation to Siriraj Hospital as a distinguished academic institution.

Congratulations to Lecturer Natchagorn Lumlerdkij from the Center of Applied Thai Traditional Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, after her poster presentation on the topic “Identification of chemopreventive compounds from Senegalia rugata (Lam.) Britton & Rose using high-resolution radical scavenging assaying combined with HPLC-HRMS-SPE-NMR analysis” was being awarded from the “21st International Congress of International Society for Ethnopharmacology (Ethnopharmacology 2022)” at the China Medical University, Taichung, Taiwan, between May 28th – 31st, 2022. This award will display a good reputation of Siriraj and enhance international collaboration in the field of ethnopharmacology and herbal medicine research.

Prof. Dittakarn Boriboonhirunsarn from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, has attended and delivered a poster presentation on the topic “Cesarean Section Rate and Associated Risk Factors in Group 1 Robson Classification” and also delivered a special lecture “Dengue infection during pregnancy” at the “27th Asia and Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AOFOG) Congress″. This congress was held as an online platform during May 23rd – 26th, 2022.
