On October 8th, 2024, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and Dr. Toba Kenji, CEO of Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Geriatrics and Gerontology (TMIG), Japan along with executive members from Siriraj and TMIG presided over the “Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Siriraj and TMIG” at Sirindhorn Meeting Room, Chalermphrakiet Building, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. This memorandum of understanding encourages cooperation in healthcare and promotes innovation in the field of geriatric medicine.

Ehwa Womans University Visits Siriraj to Explore Future Collaborations

On August 30th, 2024, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, and executive team included Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication & International Relations, Asst. Prof. Dr. Kamol Udol, Chairman of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, and Assoc. Prof. Summon Chomchai, Vice Chairman for Educational Affairs and Strategic Development, Division of Toxicology, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, warmly welcomed a delegation from Ewha Womans University, Korea led by Dr. Eun-Hee Ha, Dean of the College of Medicine, and Dr. Yoo Rim Bang, Research Professor at the Institute for Development and Human Security, aimed to explore potential collaborative opportunities between the two esteemed institutions.

During the discussions, the parties focused on enhancing the existing student exchange program and exploring new avenues for academic and research collaborations. The meeting, held at the Press Conference Room of the Faculty of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, marked a significant step forward in strengthening the ties between the two universities.

Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare Visits Siriraj

On August 29th, 2024, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with the hospital’s executive members, warmly welcomed Minister Takemi Keizo from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare, along with his delegation and representatives from the Embassy of Japan in Thailand. The visit focused on discussing future collaborations in healthcare innovation between Thailand and Japan at Siriraj Hospital.

During the session, Asst. Prof. Monsak Chuchotirot, Vice Director of Siriraj Hospital, shared insights on the Patient Health Record system. This was followed by presentations from Dr. Wattanan Makarasara, Director of SiData+, and Prof. Kritvikrom Durongpisitkul, Deputy Director of Financial Management at SiPH.

Additionally, Dr. Suwit Wibulpolprasert, Advisor to the Office of the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Public Health, provided expert insights into the Thai healthcare system.

AMEE 2024, themed “Develop your educational career: connect, grow, and inspire,” emphasized the importance of engaging with existing knowledge to guide practice, developing new insights, and ensuring that educational efforts benefit learners, patients, and society as a whole. The conference aimed to promote and inspire excellence, collaboration, and scholarship across the continuum of health professions education.

Siriraj’s participation in this prestigious event underscores the faculty’s commitment to advancing medical education and fostering international collaboration.

 

Siriraj Visits OHSU

On August 20th-21st, 2024, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, along with Prof. Yongyut Sirivatanauksorn, Director of Siriraj Hospital, and Siriraj faculty members, visited Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, Oregon, USA.

On this occasion, our team met with Dr. Marie Chisholm-Burns, Vice President and Provost of OHSU, as well as key university administrators and researchers. The visit aimed to deepen collaboration across various medical specialties, including surgery, ophthalmology, oncology, the Respiratory Eosinophilic and Nerve Project, and geriatric care.

During the trip, our team also engaged with Prof. Jacobs Estes, Director of the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute (VGTI), and the Oregon National Primate Research Center, to explore joint research efforts on infectious diseases like tuberculosis, dengue fever, hepatitis B, and other viral infections. Discussions further extended to the development of new vaccines. This partnership is focused on enhancing the ability of both institutions to respond effectively to future pandemics and emerging infectious diseases.

Siriraj Visiting Scholars at Biochemistry

Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communications and International Relations, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Chalermchai Mitrpant from the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, recently welcomed Dr. Juan J. Tena, an expert in Bioinformatics, and Dr. Silvia Naranjo, a specialist in Epigenomics and Molecular Biology in Zebrafish, from the Centro Andaluz de Biología del Desarrollo (CSIC), Spain. They will serve as Siriraj Visiting Scholars at the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, from July 30th to August 13th, 2024.

Mahidol University has joined the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), a leading global higher education network connecting 23 research-intensive universities in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania.

WUN provides special programs for career development, including networking opportunities for researchers.

We invite Mahidol University’s researchers who are interested to submit the Letter of Intent (LOI) to apply for the WUN Research Development Fund (RDF) in the internal application process organized by the International Relations Division, Mahidol University.
