On May 27th, 2024, Prof. Somchai Leelakusolvong, Chairperson of the Department of Medicine, along with Assoc. Prof. Kanokwan Boonyapisit, Head of the Division of Neurology, Assoc. Prof. Vorapun Senanarong, Asst. Prof. Chatchawan Rattanabannakit, and Dr. Witsarut Nanthasi, welcomed Prof. Dr. Philippus Scheltens. Prof. Dr. Scheltens is an expert in dementia, including imaging in dementia, fluid biomarkers in dementia, and clinical trials in dementia, from the Alzheimer Disease Center at Vrije University Medical Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. He will serve as a Siriraj Visiting Scholar at the Department of Medicine, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, from May 27th – 31st, 2024.
On May 27th, 2024, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital at Mahidol University, presided over the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between Siriraj and BGI College along with executive members, including Prof. Thawatchai Akaraviputh, Director of Siriraj Medical School; Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations; Assoc. Prof. Thawornchai Limjindaporn, Deputy Dean for Postgraduate Education; Assoc. Prof. Rattapon Thuangtong, Deputy Dean for Student Affairs; and Assoc. Prof. Sith Sathornsumetee, Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation, and representatives from BGI Group and BGI College included Mr. Sujie Cao, Chief Representative of BGI Group in Southeast Asia; Mr. Xiaohan Wang, Deputy Chief Representative of BGI Group in Southeast Asia; Dr. Minfeng Xiao, Vice Dean of BGI College; and Ms. Yanwen Xiao and Ms. Wanzi Dong, International Education Managers of BGI College. This Memorandum of Understanding establishes the collaboration on joint student and post-doctoral programs between the two parties.



Welcome, Doctor Hajera Jabeen, a radiation oncologist from Atomic Energy Cancer Hospital NORI, Pakistan, to undertake a short training program, “6-Week Observership Program in Radiation Oncology” at the Division of Radio Oncology, Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Achiraya Teyateeti starting from May 20th – June 28th, 2024.
On May 24th, 2024, Her Majesty’s Cardiac Center, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, hosted the “ASEAN RotaPro Workshop” for ten interventional cardiologists from Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. The workshop aimed to teach the procedure of “High-Speed Rotational Atherectomy” for patients with calcified lesions in the coronary arteries, leading to more accurate disease diagnosis and enabling physicians to make better treatment decisions for coronary artery disease. The course was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Nattawut Wongpraparut, MD, FESC, FACC, FSCAI, from the Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, and his team.

On May 24th, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communications and International Relations, and Prof. Dr. Uraiwan Panich, Chair of the Department of Pharmacology, warmly welcomed Prof. Dr. Matthew Whiteman, an expert in Pharmacology, Medical Biochemistry, and Research on Mitochondria-Targeted Molecules, from the University of Exeter Medical School, UK to serve as the Siriraj Visiting Scholar at the Department of Pharmacology from May 13th to May 24th, 2024.

On May 23rd, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, welcomed distinguished guests from Seoul National University (SNU), Republic of Korea, to learn about Siriraj’s medical undergraduate education programs. The guests also toured Siriraj’s medical education facilities, including the Siriraj BioBank, the Siriraj Central Research Facility (SiCRF), and the Siriraj Medical Library.

From May 17th – 22nd, 2024, Asst. Prof. Krittika Teerapuncharoen, M.D., of the Division of Respiratory Disease and Tuberculosis, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “American Thoracic Society Conference 2024 (ATS 2024)” in San Diego, USA, to present a poster presentation on the topic “Factors Associated with Progression of Interstitial Lung Disease in Patients with Systemic Sclerosis (SSc-ILD)”. The ATS 2024 showcases the latest advances and discoveries in respiratory science, patient care, and global respiratory health, making a significant impact on the future of the field.
Asst. Prof. Teerapuncharoen’s participation will benefit Siriraj Hospital in several ways:

Doctor Onuma Sattayalertyanyong, M.D., from Siriraj GI Endoscopy Center, Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and delivered an oral presentation on the topic “Jumbo Forceps Biopsy is Comparable to Cold Snare Polypectomy in Complete Polyp Resection for 3-8 mm Colorectal Polyps: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Trial” at the “Digestive Disease Week® (DDW) 2024” in Washington, D.C., USA, between May 18th – 21st, 2024. The DDW is the premier meeting for professionals working in gastroenterology, hepatology, GI endoscopy, gastrointestinal surgery, and related fields.
