Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University is pleased to announce the scholarship program “Siriraj International Fellowship Training in Clinical Pain Management (Academic Year 2024)” jointly sponsored by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and WFSA – World Federation Of Societies of Anaesthesiologists.

“Siriraj International Fellowship Training in Clinical Pain Management” is a hands-on one-year fellowship program available for two outstanding multidisciplinary clinicians in pain management, treatments, and assessments for application in low-resource countries. The program will start on August 1st, 2024 – July 31st, 2025, at Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. On November 30th, 2023, Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, led the Siriraj delegation to Shanghai. The day’s highlight was a visit to Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare Co., LTD., a global leader in cutting-edge medical imaging, radiotherapy equipment, life science instruments, and intelligent digital solutions. The delegation witnessed the innovative contributions of this industry powerhouse, showcasing its high-performance advancements that serve hospitals, universities, and research institutions worldwide!

In the afternoon, the Siriraj delegation continued their exploration at the Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology (SIBET), a key institution under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). SIBET is the sole institute within CAS dedicated to the research and development of biomedical instruments. The team immersed themselves in a comprehensive demonstration of state-of-the-art technology, including biomedical imaging labs, a Laparoscope-holder robot system, a rehabilitation engineering technology lab, and a puncture surgery assisting robot system for thoracocentesis.

As the day concluded, the Siriraj team embarked on their final leg of the journey, heading to Shenzhen for the last stop on this enriching and insightful exploration of medical and technological advancements in China. The delegation eagerly anticipates discovering the latest developments and insights in Shenzhen.

From November 27th-30th, 2023, Asst. Prof.Sukit Ruksasuk, M.D., from the Division of Nephrology, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended Europe’s Peritoneal Dialysis Conference (EuroPD 2023) in Bruges, Belgium, to present his oral presentation on the topic “Randomized Evaluation of Efficacy and Safety of Intraperitoneal Low Molecular Weight Heparin Versus Unfractionated Heparin in Infected Peritoneal Dialysis.”

On November 29th, 2023, the Siriraj delegation, under the leadership of Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, continued their substantive visit to the Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC). Today’s highlight was the ‘PKUHSC – Siriraj Joint Symposium’ where four distinguished Siriraj representatives actively engaged in delivering insightful lectures on various topics:

Prof. Yongyut Siriwattanaaksorn, Director of Siriraj Hospital, discussed “Siriraj’s Proteomics & Metabolomics.”

Assoc. Prof. Pittaya Dankulchai from the Department of Radiology presented “Recent Radiotherapy for Cancers at Siriraj.”

Prof. Vip Viprakasit from the Department of Pediatrics shared advancements in “Pediatric Hematology at Siriraj.”

The symposium concluded with closing remarks from Prof. Asavamongkolkul, emphasizing the academic collaboration between Siriraj and PKUHSC. Post-symposium, the Siriraj delegation strategically integrated a brief visit to the Great Wall of China, not only as a historical excursion but also as a symbolic moment to foster cross-cultural understanding and collaboration.

This deliberate inclusion of a cultural experience aligns with Siriraj’s commitment to holistic engagement and collaboration beyond academic realms. It underscores the importance of connecting on both professional and cultural levels, enriching the overall collaborative journey.

After this enriching academic and cultural experience, the Siriraj team departed for Shanghai, marking the next significant destination on their collaborative journey!

The Siriraj’s delegation comprised key figures including Prof. Yongyut Siriwattanaaksorn, Director of Siriraj Hospital; Assoc. Prof. Thawornchai Limchindaporn, Deputy Dean of Postgraduate Education; Assoc. Prof. Sith Sathornsumethee, Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation; Assoc. Prof. Prapat Wanitpongpan, Deputy Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations; Assoc. Prof. Trongtham Thongdee, Chairman of the Department of Radiology; Prof. Vip Viprakasit from the Department of Pediatrics; Assoc. Prof. Atthaporn Trakansanga and Assoc. Beyond the academic discourse, the delegation delved into exploring the National Institute of Health Data Science at Peking University. A comprehensive tour of the Peking University Medical Science and Technology Building and the facilities of HY Medical Company further enriched the visit. This engagement not only facilitated knowledge exchange but also established meaningful connections, marking a significant stride in fostering collaborative efforts between Siriraj Hospital and Peking University Health Science Center.

On November 28th, 2023, Asst. Prof. Kanokwaroon Watananirun, Assistant Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations welcomed delegates from International Health Program (IHP), National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan led by Dr. Yi-Fang Chung, Director of International Health Program, on a visit and discussion at Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University.

On November 27th, 2023, the “Siriraj IR Pa Plearn Project” by the International Relations Office welcomed 18 international students, researchers, fellows, and residents to participate in the Loy Krathong Festival Activity, providing them with a unique opportunity to delve into Thai cultural traditions. The students crafted Krathongs for the first time, donning traditional Thai clothing to further enrich their cultural experience. Following this, they visited Ra Kang Temple to release their Krathongs, fully immersing themselves in the festival.

On November 27th, 2023, Asst. Prof. Kamol Udom, M.D., Chairman of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, alongside Prof. Prasert Assantachai, M.D., Doctor Sichon Luerithiphong, M.D., and Doctor Kamollawat Sutthipool, M.D., extended a warm welcome to the administrative members and postgraduate students of the ‘Hospital Administration Master Study, Postgraduate Programme’ from Universitas Respati Indonesia (URINDO) on a comparative visiting study program at the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine and the Siriraj Hospital’s Outpatient Clinic, which includes the Geriatric Clinic, Vaccine & Infectious Clinic, and Occupational Clinic.

The primary objective of this activity is to enhance students’ knowledge, comprehension, and practical experience in operational geriatric medicine and geriatric services. It forms an integral part of fostering service excellence within hospital settings.

From November 23rd – 25th, 2023, Assoc. Prof. Anirut Pattaragarn, M.D., Head of the Division of Nephrology, Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, participated in ‘The 15th Asian Congress of Pediatric Nephrology 2023 (ACPN2023)’ held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The purpose of his attendance was to present a research study focusing on the “Risk factors associated with recurrent urinary tract infections in children with bladder dysfunction.” Assoc. Prof. Pattaragarn aims to update the most recent knowledge and share the clinical experience.

The ACPN2023 congress, which took place in Dubai, featured notable scientific programs comprising keynote lectures and workshops. Distinguished international and regional faculties were actively involved, fostering an environment conducive to knowledge sharing and informal exchanges among attendees. This premier scientific program also included joint sessions in collaboration with the European Society of Pediatric Nephrology (ESPN) and AsPNA, operating under the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA).

From November 23rd – 25th, 2023, Mrs. Junporn Kongwatcharapong, a senior clinical pharmacist from the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the ’28th International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy Annual Scientific Meeting (ISCP 2023)’ in Seoul, Republic of Korea. Pharmacist Ruamyod was honored with a ‘3rd place in the poster presentation award’ for her research poster presentation on the topic “Assessment of Direct Oral Anticoagulant Use and Clinical Outcomes among Patients with Renal Impairment at Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, Thailand.”

The ISCP 2023 Seoul provided key insight, practice-changing updates, and cutting-edge educational content with outstanding world-class professionals. It brought together key stakeholders in cardiovascular pharmacotherapies, cardiovascular disease prevention, and better patient care.
