10TH ASEAN Medical Deans’ Summit 2021

Between September 3rd  – 4th, 2021, the International University, Cambodia hosted the “10th ASEAN Medical Deans’ Summit” via the zoom platform due to the heavy pandemic of the COVID-19. The details of the Summit are shown as follows:

On September 3rd, 2021, the ASEAN Medical Deans’ Summit Day 1 start with an opening remark by the President of ASEAN Medical School Network, Prof. Chong Yap Seng, Dean of NUS Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Singapore, and the discussions on 4 themes: “Protection of IP for Online Materials”, “Social Media Navigation/Fake News from Educators’ Perspective”, “Volunteerism Practices Being Adapted in Response to Pandemic”, and “Student Mobility”.

On September 4th, 2021, start with the China-ASEAN Medical Deans’ Summit Day 2, the discussions are on the themes: “Continual Training of Medical Students in the Midst of COVID Measures”, “COVID Research That Each Institution Has Developed”.

The next session is the ASEAN Medical Schools Network Board Meeting, and the discussions continued on 7 agendas as follows:

Update! Application Period & Interview Schedule Student Exchange 2022

The International Relations Division, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, is pleased to announce an UPDATE of “the application period”, “the schedule for the English interview examination”, and the “Announcement for English Proficiency (Academic Year 2021)” for “Siriraj Medical Student Exchange Program 2022 (Academic Year 2021)” are shown as follows:

  • The application period for Siriraj’s 2nd & 4th-year medical students is open until September 23rd, 2021.
  • The application period for Siriraj’s 6th-year medical students is open until October 20th, 2021.
  • The schedule of an English interview examination for Siriraj’s 4th-year medical students is Wednesday, September 29th, 2021.

Siriraj Launched Mobile Application “Siriraj Joint Care”

Siriraj Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Excellence Center (SiELITE), Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, has launched a mobile application, “Siriraj Joint Care”, which aims to systematically expedite the information of the patients and internal data registry in order to overcome the existing incomplete and complex data collection process.

The structure of SiELITE, which is a “multi-disciplinary team”, consists of a team of doctors, nurses, physical therapists, out-patient department, in-patient department, follow-up team, research assistant team, and quality development team, and each team has discretely managed their own data. To retrieve some specific data is time-consuming and occasionally erroneous owing to the redundancy of the process. In July 2019, SiELITE started to solve the problems that they had encountered by developing an “electronic data management format” through “mobile devices” instead of a “man-made paperwork system” to eliminate all problems related to unorganized and scattering data, material consumption, incomplete registration, and form filling processing, etc. The application can even analyze the data and alert the users when some data is missing!

From start to finish, “Siriraj Joint Care” took 2 years in development! SiELITE members will record all information through mobile phone or tablet with self-identification via Siriraj Hospital’s server. This application is a user-specific application, so each user will see only the mandatory display for them individually. This application data flow and security had been approved by the SiData+ team and the PDPA governance team from Siriraj Hospital. For the SiELITE members, this application will help SiELITE to manage its internal data registry and management, in a real-time and paperless fashion.

After the app has been launched, the patients care system will become more well-rounded and cover all stages of care including pre-operative, inpatients, postoperative, and home follow-up periods. The complete and concise information about the joint replacement will help the doctors to follow up and monitor each and every patient effectively and the patients can receive health education about their new hip, or knee joints, and get the notification as needed. This application will guide individually for detailed treatment at SiELITE, achieving faster, better, cheaper, and happier from our service. Furthermore, in the near future, the application will be developed to connect and share the data between the 3 hospitals i.e. Siriraj Hospital, Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital, and Golden Jubilee Medical Center to enhance the performance of the robot-assisted surgery of the network. The team also wants to improve the application’s performance so that it can work with the telemedicine system and recognize patients who are in a “high alert” state. Overall, this application will aid in the future development of a seamless and defect-free joint replacement therapy.

Robotic Surgery in Urology: Hands-on Wet Lab Training

On  August 24th, 2021, Assoc. Prof. Sittiporn Srinualnad, Head of the Division of Urological Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, presided and conducted a hands-on workshop for surgeons and healthcare professionals “Robotic Surgery in Urology: Hands-on Wet Lab Training” at the Training Center, Faculty of Veterinary Science, Mahidol University. On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Sittiporn has demonstrated various robotic surgery techniques such as Intra-corporeal ileal conduit/neobladder (Sureform robotic staplers), Partial nephrectomy (Renorrhaphy technique), Robotic Radical Nephrectomy, and Heterotopic Kidney transplantation (vascular anastomosis and ureter reimplantation) for the participants (4 surgeons, a surgical nurse, a registered nurse, a veterinary anesthesiologist, and a medical technologist).

International Fellowship in Clinical Pain Management 2021

Welcome, Dr. Mohd Suhaimi Bin Tajudin (right), an anesthesiologist from Hospital Selayang, Malaysia, to undertaking “Siriraj’s International Fellowship Training in Clinical Pain Management” at Siriraj Pain Management Clinical Training Center, Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Nantthasorn Zinboonyahgoon and his team between August 13th, 2021 – July 31st, 2022. This program is jointly sponsored by the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) and the World Federation of Societies for Anaesthesiologists (WFSA), this hands-on one-year fellowship trains an outstanding multidisciplinary clinician in pain management, treatments, and assessments for application in low-resource countries.

Siriraj Open Online Lecture Courses on “Global Classroom”

The ASEAN Medical Schools Network (AMSN) has operated its online lecture series called “Global Classroom” through the website of CenMED Scholar – A Learning Content Management System empowered by the Centre of Medical Education, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

The Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, as a founding member of the ASEAN Medical Schools Network, also joined this “Global Classroom” program by providing 7 online lecture classes (more classes will be available soon) through CenMED Scholar – A Learning Content Management System. If anyone interest to take these online classes, please follow our instructions as follows:

How to enroll in CenMED Scholar Courses?

All courses offered by CenMED will have to be registered online.

If you are a new user, you will have to register for a new account.

If you have an existing account, you may log in to this system and choose your desired courses.

After you successfully finished the register and login, please select “Global Classroom Initiative” and select “Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University” on the Courses menu.
