From July 18th -21st, 2024, Lecturer Karnkawin Patharateeranart. M.D., from the Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and presented a poster on the topic “Depth of Myocardial Bridging at Left Anterior Descending Artery on Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography Associated with High-Risk Plaque of Proximal Coronary Artery Segment” at “The 19th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT2024)” in Washington, D.C., USA. Lecturer Patharateeranart participated in advancing knowledge in cardiovascular CT technology, aiming to improve patient care.

SCCT2024 is the premier meeting focused on cardiovascular CT. It is designed to engage physicians, trainees, technologists, and healthcare professionals in a complete overview of the cardiovascular CT field. Planned sessions are targeted for all levels—new practitioners and experienced providers alike. Sessions also range from general overviews to state-of-the-art research and expert discussions.

Ms. Veerachat Muangsombut, Ph.D., a Postdoctoral Fellow from the Department of Immunology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “Viruses of Microbes 2024” conference in Cairns, Australia, from 15th – 19th, 2024. She presented an abstract on “Effective Control of the Foodborne Pathogen Listeria Monocytogenes through the Synergistic Action of a Bacteriophage and a Pyrogallol-derived Natural Antimicrobial.”

Attending international conferences like Viruses of Microbes 2024 allows Ms. Muangsombut to forge connections with professionals and potential collaborators worldwide. Ms. Patoo Withatanung, Ph.D., a Level 1 Researcher from the Department of Immunology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “Viruses of Microbes 2024” conference in Cairns, Australia, from July 15th – 19th, 2024. She presented a poster titled “Herb Extract Curcumin Enhances Killing Efficiency of a Novel Phage Targeting Multidrug-Resistant Acinetobacter baumannii.”

Ms. Withatanung’s participation in the conference provided her valuable insights and inspiration for future research projects. Ms. Withatanung gained new perspectives on the innovative use of bacteriophages for treating antibiotic-resistant infections, which could potentially expand the hospital’s treatment capabilities. Moreover, the event facilitated discussions on collaborative research opportunities, fostering professional connections crucial for advancing scientific endeavors and achieving broader recognition within the scientific community.

Assoc. Prof. Pichaya Waitayawinyu, M.D., from the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited as a guest speaker and workshop facilitator at the “20th Asian Society of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists (ASPA) Conference & 3rd Paediatric Anaesthesia Meeting of the Malaysian Society of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists (MSPA)” in Kuching, Malaysia, from July 11th – 14th, 2024.

Assoc. Prof. Waitayawinyu delivered a special lecture on “Anesthesia for Craniosynostosis: Optimizing Outcomes” and moderated the session on “Pediatric Perioperative Life Support (PPLS)”.

ASPA 2024 featured a world-class scientific program with presentations by leading experts in pediatric anesthesia, covering a wide range of topics and hands-on workshops, including Perioperative Pediatric Life Support, TIVA, and Difficult Airway management.

From July 13th – 14th, Lecturer Yusuke Miyata of the Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics (SSPO) was invited as a symposium speaker at the 30th Scientific Meeting of the Japan Academy of Prosthetics and Orthotics (JAPO) held in Urawa, Saitama, Japan. The conference theme, “Expanding Frontiers” aimed to facilitate the sharing knowledge, skills, and experiences in prosthetics and orthotics. Mr. Miyata delivered a presentation titled “P&O Working Overseas” as part of Symposium 1.

Two students from SSPO accompanied him and participated in the conference, enhancing their academic and professional exposure. The main topics covered included the supply and education systems for prosthetics and orthotics in Thailand, future challenges, and ways to cooperate with Japan. An active Q&A session followed the presentation.

This year marked the 30th anniversary of the annual conference, which featured various research and clinical reports, offering a significant learning opportunity for Japanese prosthetists and orthotists. Additionally, exhibits and demonstrations by various companies provided meaningful engagement for all participants. The conference was attended by more than 1,000 participants, reflecting its broad impact and importance within the professional community.

Doctor Wisit Chankhunaphas, M.D., a Clinical Educator from the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “28th International Conference on Prenatal Diagnosis and Therapy (ISPD 2024)” in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, held between July 7th – 10th, 2024, and presented a poster presentation on the topic, “Nomograms of Fetal Thoracic Dimensions from 17 to 37 Weeks of Gestation”. His participation in ISPD 2024 not only expanded his expertise and fostered valuable connections with leading figures in the field, driving future research initiatives and elevating care standards at Siriraj Hospital, but also provided insights and innovations that will be disseminated among colleagues, enriching the hospital’s knowledge base and reinforcing its commitment to superior patient outcomes and advancing global healthcare standards.

The 28th ISPD 2024, organized by the International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis (ISPD), featured global experts who taught courses, presented the latest research, and debated emerging approaches to prenatal screening and therapy.

Assoc. Prof. Sanitra Anuwutnavin, M.D., from the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the “28th International Conference on Prenatal Diagnosis and Therapy (ISPD 2024)” in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, held between July 7th – 10th, 2024. She presented two poster presentations on the topics, “Evaluation of cardiac findings using speckle tracking in fetuses with hemoglobin Bart’s disease” and “Impact of pregnancies with isolated fetal congenital heart disease on perinatal outcomes”. Her participation will benefit Siriraj Hospital as follows:
– Gaining advanced knowledge on various topics related to prenatal diagnosis and therapy, including clinical genetics, fetal imaging, and fetal therapy.
– Inspiring new research initiatives.
– Establishing connections with international institutes.
– Receiving Travel Scholarships for her two poster presentations, recognized by the ISPD committee for both in-person and virtual meetings.

Assistant Lecturer Udomporn Manupibul, Ph.D., from the Sirindhorn School of Prosthetics and Orthotics (SSPO), attended “The 29th Congress of the European Society of Biomechanics (ESB2024)” and delivered an oral presentation on the topic “Evaluation of the Biomechanics of Lower Limbs in Normal, Overweight, and Obese People Using Smart F-IMU System”. The conference was held from June 30th to July 3rd, 2024, in Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom.

The conference provided an opportunity for discussions and knowledge exchange in biomechanics, spanning from research to practical applications, with researchers from numerous countries. Assistant Lecturer Dr. Udomporn Manupibul gained insights on applying research findings to clinical work and established connections with researchers from various universities. Additionally, the conference offered exposure to new innovations in biomechanics that have recently entered the market.

Ms. Paleerath Peerapen, Ph.D., a Level 2 Researcher from the Medical Proteomics Unit, Research Department, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and presented a poster presentation on the topic “Trigonelline prevents high-glucose-induced endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition by suppression of oxidative stress and preservation of ATP and mitochondria function” at the annual meeting, “NUTRITION 2024”, in Chicago, USA, between June 29th – July 3rd, 2024. Her participation not only showcased the research conducted at Siriraj Hospital to the global nutrition community but also provided an opportunity to stay updated with the latest advancements in nutrition research for further development at Siriraj.

Ms. Sunisa Yoodee, Ph.D., a Level 1 Researcher from the Medical Proteomics Unit, Research Department, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, presented a poster titled “The inhibitory effects of trigonelline-induced altered secreted proteins from renal tubular cells on calcium oxalate crystals: Implications for kidney stone prevention” at the “American Society for Nutrition Annual Meeting – NUTRITION 2024” in Chicago, USA, held from June 29th – July 2nd, 2024. Her participation highlighted Siriraj Hospital’s research within the global nutrition community and facilitated engagement with cutting-edge developments, particularly in the clinical application of bioactive compounds for managing human diseases. This knowledge promises to enhance study methodologies, paving the way for practical medical research advancements at Siriraj.
