Between March 3rd – 7th, 2024, Dr. Varit Rangsaritwutikul, an Anesthesiologist from the Department of Anesthesiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended the 18th World Congress of Anesthesiologists (WCA2024) in Singapore and delivered an E-Lecture presentation on the topic “The efficacy of risperidone in reducing postoperative delirium in vascular patients” which was awarded the 2nd prize for best abstract presentation.!

About the Congress: With representation from more than 130 countries, the WCA is the only international congress that offers a comprehensive program that addresses anaesthesiology globally. Additionally, WCA provides training and education opportunities that drive conversations, deepen collaboration, and accelerate the promotion of science, networking, and knowledge sharing across the spectrum of anaesthesiology.

From February 28th – March 1st, Assoc. Prof. Thammawat Parakonthun, M.D., a Lecturer from the Minimally Invasive Surgery Unit in the Division of General Surgery at the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and delivered an oral presentation at the 96th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Gastric Cancer Association in Kyoto, Japan. His presentation, titled “Higher Compliance with ERAS Protocol Improves Recovery and Mortality in Esophageal-Gastric Surgery,” highlighted the benefits of adhering to the ERAS protocol in upper gastrointestinal surgery. Assoc. Prof. Parakonthun’s participation underscores Siriraj Hospital’s commitment to enhancing surgical outcomes through advanced protocols and international collaboration.

Assoc. Prof. Chantacha Sitticharoon, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Education and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended ‘Ottawa 2024’, a conference on the assessment of competence in medicine and healthcare profession, in Melbourne, Australia, held between February 24th – 28th, 2024, and presented an oral presentation entitled “Impact of the Admission Systems on Academic Performance, Students behaviors, and Student Perspectives in a Doctor of Medicine Program”.

Ms. Varanya Srisomsak, a research technical officer of the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended ‘Ottawa 2024’, a conference on the assessment of competence in medicine and healthcare profession, in Melbourne, Australia, between February 24th – 28th, 2024, and presented an e-Poster presentation entitled “Evaluation of multiple-choice question exam analysis of preclinical subjects”.

Ms. Issarawan Keadkraichaiwat, a research technical officer of the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended ‘Ottawa 2024’, a conference on the assessment of competence in medicine and healthcare profession, in Melbourne, Australia, between February 24th – 28th, 2024, and presented an e-Poster presentation entitled “Learning Behaviours and Academic Performance of First-Year Medical Students Based on Course-Learning Outcomes and Non-Grading Evaluation”.

During February 24th – 28th, 2024, Lecturer Korakrit Imwattana, M.D., from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended ‘Ottawa 2024’, a conference on the assessment of competence in medicine and healthcare profession, in Melbourne, Australia and presented a research poster titled “Using online quizzes to evaluate knowledge outcomes in Medical Microbiology / In-house exam stem generator to assist with test item creation“. The aim of Lect. Imwattana‘s participation was to deepen his understanding in the concept and implementation of the Programmatic Assessment for undergraduate education.

During February 22nd – 25th, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Nuttawut Rodanant, M.D., Chief of the Division of Retina, Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, was invited as a guest speaker to deliver a special lecture on the topic “Subretinal and Suprachoidal Air” at “The 39th Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) 2024 Congress”, held in conjunction with the 49th PERDAMI (the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (IOA) Annual Meeting) at Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center, Republic of Indonesia.

Themed “Beyond All Limits”, the APAO 2024 Congress will bring together ophthalmologists from around the world, and it is expected to feature about 800 internationally recognized speakers presenting their latest work and scientific innovations in the major ophthalmic subspecialties. An attendance figure of around 5,000 delegates.

On February 6th – 9th, 2024, Asst. Prof. Ratcharin Kongkasuwan, M.D., from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended ‘The 17th European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders Congress (EAHAD 2024)’ in Frankfurt, Germany, and delivered a research poster presentation on the topic “Abstract Presentation: Validity and reliability of Thai version of the Paediatric Haemophilia Activities List (PedHAL).” Asst. Prof. Kongkasuwan aimed to contribute to the enhancement of hemophilia clinic services and resident education, while also establishing connections for future research endeavors.

The European Association for Haemophilia and Allied Disorders (EAHAD) is a multi-disciplinary association of healthcare professionals who provide care for individuals with haemophilia and other bleeding disorders. Its members include haematologists, internists, pediatricians, nurses, physiotherapists, laboratory scientists and researchers from across Europe. Since its establishment in 2007, EAHAD has worked to improve the situation of people living with haemophilia and other bleeding disorders.

Lecturer Primana Punnakitikashem, Ph.D., of the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, attended and delivered a research presentation on the topic “The development of multifunctional lipid nanocomposites in reprogramming M2 macrophage polarization and inducing apoptosis for an enhancement in anticancer effects” at the “5th International Conference On Nanomedicine And Nanobiotechnology – ICONAN 2024″ between January 15th – 17th, 2024, in Barcelona, Spain.
